Today we’d like to introduce you to Brunhilda Eya.
Hi Brunhilda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In January 2011, I moved to the United States from Cameroon and enrolled at the University of Maryland University College with a major in Cyber Security and a minor in Homeland Security. Three years later I earned my Bachelor of Science degree and two years after, I earned my Master of Science in Cyber Security.
In 2016, I was then blessed with my first-ever corporate job as an IT consultant at Deloitte and I thought it was time to travel the world. I now had a steady income and could afford my trips and make my dreams come true. I have always enjoyed traveling but didn’t really have the means to until I had my own source of income. My first international trip after relocating to the USA was to Manchester, UK and my most recent trip was to Orlando, Florida in January 2023, and my next trip is to South Korea and Japan (I can’t wait).
My trips are always a learning experience; I am lucky I get to learn and experience different cultures, different lifestyles, and most important different food. I believe my love for food also inspires me to travel. I enjoy trying new and exploring new food options, so what better way to experience authentic traditional cuisine than visiting these countries?
My love for traveling, exploring, and food also inspired me to start my own blog in November 2022. I wish to use this opportunity to share my story and if possible inspire more people out there to travel often and explore the world and all it has to offer.
I am always looking forward to my next trip!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road but faith, hard work, and determination have brought me this far in my journey.
Being the first daughter of an immigrant single mother, I faced lots of challenges after moving to the United States. I must say that these sufferings and challenges helped built me and molded me into who I am today. They taught me to work hard and never give up. I learnt at a very young age that nothing is ever handed to you and you have to work extremely hard to earn everything you have. My struggles were a life lesson and they taught me to be independent, responsible, and to always stay humble.
My background was the fuel that powered my love for traveling so that can explore different parts of the world and see how they exist and how they live. It keeps me grounded and helps me understand better the purpose of live.
During my difficult moments, I prayed and cried myself to sleep several nights but that only made me stronger and empowered me to be successful.
Traveling has now become a life lesson for me, it teaches me true happiness and keeps me modest and humbled and I am very grateful for this opportunity.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently a Cyber Security specialist and have been in this field for the past 6 years. I specialize in vulnerability scanning and remediation. My daily tasks consist of safeguarding a technology system against internal and external threats to ensure data is secured at all times. We implore the use of continuous monitoring to monitor the technology system and networks to detect security threats in a timely manner to prevent system downtime.
As a Cyber security specialist, I also ensure that users are employing and adhering to state and company-defined security controls. This task is completed by ensuring that all security documents and policies are up to date and being adhered to by all users especially privilege users with more augmented and complicated system access.
I am mostly proud of my responsibilities and the end goal which is to safeguard users’ and clients’ data and sensitive information. I take so much pride in my job as a Cyber security specialist so clients and customers can access these systems with peace of mind knowing that I and my team are working extremely hard to protect and secure what matters to you most.
I will say my team-building skills and my problem-solving skills set me apart from others. The ability to think and work well under pressure is the reason for my successful career so far.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you are currently in an unfavorable condition, I will definitely say that don’t let it define who you are or your future. Have faith in yourself, be consistent, and work hard. Do not give up and keep trying, even if you fail, get back up and try again till you make it.
Use your time wisely, have clear goals, set expectations, and trust yourself. Have a positive mindset, if you believe you can make it then you will. Speak it to existence and most importantly pray for guidance and strength to be able to overcome any obstacle in life.
I don’t wish I knew anything in particular, I take life one day at a time and one step at a time. It is my first time living this life, getting to this age so we are bound to make mistakes and it is ok. Just learn from them and grow from them.
One day you will look back, and be grateful it happened, and you will be very proud of yourself you made it through and came out stronger. This is the joy of life!
