Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Mccue Hoek
Hi Christina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For the past five years, I’ve been researching and visiting different places that offer similar amenities and experiences to what I had envisioned for our club. What stood out to me was that very few places had everything I was looking for, but those that did were incredibly successful. It became clear to me that there was a real need for a space that could bring all those elements together.
When I imagined The Spiral Staircase, I pictured a place where women could come together to share their dreams, find inspiration, and build meaningful connections. Before 2024, Tampa didn’t have a dedicated space like that for women, and I saw how much it was needed. So many women were balancing family, careers, and personal growth on their own, and I wanted to create a space that could be a community and a support system.
The Spiral Staircase became that space—a place where we offer more than just workshops and networking. It’s about celebrating the power of women supporting each other. We’ve built a vibrant community where ideas can spark, and people can nourish their minds and bodies. It’s also a beautiful venue for special events, whether it’s a wedding or a corporate gathering, designed to make every occasion memorable. For me, it’s about creating a place where women can thrive together.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles we’ve faced are very real and, to be honest, they’re still ongoing. From severely delayed construction to back-to-back hurricanes that have devastated our community, it’s been a challenging journey both emotionally and financially. We’ve also encountered questions like, “Why do women need their own space?” or even, “Do you hate men?” The answer is a resounding no! It’s not about excluding anyone; it’s about creating a space where women—who so often put themselves last—can prioritize their well-being without the pressure to impress or fight to have their voices heard.
Our goal has always been to provide a safe, welcoming environment where women can simply be themselves—a place to relax, recharge, and do whatever fills their cup.
Ultimately, we’re committed to meeting the needs of women in our community, no matter what stage of life they’re in. That mission is what drives us forward, even through the toughest times.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the CEO and founder of The Spiral Staircase, a space dedicated to creating a strong community for women in the Tampa Bay area, no matter what stage of life they’re in. Our goal is to provide a supportive, welcoming environment where women can connect, grow, and thrive together.
One of my proudest moments was finally opening the doors to The Spiral Staircase. This concept has been a labor of love that I worked on for over five years, so seeing it come to life was surreal—it was a huge milestone for me.
That said, I also find so much pride in the everyday wins. For me, it’s the little moments that matter most: a member making a meaningful connection, a new face lighting up with excitement when they step into the space for the first time, or seeing the joy and energy at one of our events. Those moments remind me that it’s not just about the big picture—it’s about the small, consistent wins that build something truly special.
What sets us apart is the community we’re creating. The Spiral Staircase is more than just a space—it’s a movement that brings women together, empowers them, and celebrates their individuality. It’s a place where women can feel seen, heard, and supported, and I’m so proud of how it’s evolving.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think something that might surprise people is how deeply personal this journey has been for me. I grew up right here in Tampa, and over the years, I’ve seen our city evolve in so many ways. But one thing that always stood out to me was the lack of a dedicated space for women and mothers to truly collaborate and support each other through all the different stages of life.
That realization is what sparked my mission to create The Spiral Staircase. I’m here to help change Tampa for the better—to build a place where women can thrive in every area of their lives. Whether it’s young women looking to connect with mentors, mothers navigating new challenges, career women pivoting into new opportunities, or entrepreneurs growing their businesses, I want to create a space where they feel supported, seen, and empowered.
