Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleen Doyle
Hi Colleen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After working in the education industry for a few years, I needed a change. I have always loved weddings and felt that that was my next “calling”. I took the first job in the wedding industry I could find, which happened to be at a florist shop. Instantly, I fell in love with floral design and working with couples to create something amazing for their big day! A few years later, I was ready to work for myself. SPDC started as a most small businesses start, with a dream and a hope. I wanted to create a space that couples and clients would be able to work alongside the designer to create bespoke and intentional designs for the everyday, the big day, and everything in between. Along came SPDC and we have never looked back.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
NOT AT ALL. As every small business owner can attest to, we are problem solvers at the forefront. Whether it’s trying to find that perfect flower or coming up with new ways of mechanics and design, a huge portion of my time is spent problem solving any issues that come up. I would not be where I am now without the help and brainstorming of my closest friends and family to help talk through any issue or hiccup.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Wedding florals are my first floral love! SPDC specializes in wedding florals. Our style is very organic and whimsical, focusing on making every wedding uniquely custom, regardless of the color palette or style. We have created a space that allows us to collaborate with our couples to create a highly customized design that is tailored to the couple’s energy and vibe. I am beyond proud of the relationships we are able to cultivate with our couples, which helps us get in tune with each wedding.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Trends for weddings fluctuate fairly frequently, so we try to look ahead and bring in new style trends into our repertoire as soon as possible. I think we are going to see a shift back to simpler designs, fewer blooms and a larger focus on color palette and mechanics.
