Check Out Darius Beasley’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Beasley.

Darius, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Head High started from pain, but it turned into purpose. I lost my close friend Lil B to gun violence—someone I grew up with during elementary and middle school. We were tight. I was at his house every day after school, so his death hit me hard.

After his funeral, I spoke with his mom and told her, “I’m praying for you—keep your head high.” That moment stuck with me. A week later, while I was at work, those words kept replaying in my mind, and it hit me: Head High.

That’s when the vision came. I wanted to create something that would motivate people to keep going through whatever life throws at them. I started doing research, connected with a few designers, invested what I could, and got to work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting Head High Detroit wasn’t easy. It came from a painful place, after losing my friend Lil B. But even after the idea came to me, the journey was far from smooth.

I didn’t know everything about building a brand—I had to learn as I went. Late nights researching, designing, and figuring out how to even get shirts made. I invested my own money not knowing if I’d see a return. I’ve had times when sales were slow, support was quiet, and doubt started to creep in.

Balancing work, being a dad, and running a business was a lot. There were moments where I felt like giving up. But I remembered the reason I started—to motivate others to keep their head high, no matter what life throws at them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Head High Detroit is more than a clothing brand—it’s a movement rooted in resilience, faith, and purpose. It was created to uplift and motivate people to keep their heads high through life’s toughest moments. Inspired by the loss of my close friend Lil B to gun violence, I wanted to turn that pain into purpose. Every piece we drop carries that spirit of perseverance and hope.

We specialize in motivational streetwear that represents the grit, strength, and energy of Detroit. From tees and hoodies to custom collabs, everything we create is meant to inspire. Our designs speak to people who’ve been through real-life struggles but still show up every day with their head high.

What sets us apart is the heart behind the brand. This isn’t just about fashion—it’s about a message. We’re known for our authenticity, our connection to the culture, and the way we represent Head High with pride and positivity.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of staying true to the vision and growing something meaningful from the ground up—especially as a full-time working dad. I’ve seen this brand connect with people from all walks of life, and that’s the most rewarding part.

What I want readers to know is this: Head High is for anybody pushing through pain, chasing purpose, and believing that better days are ahead. We’re just getting started, and with God’s grace, we’re going to keep growing.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I can see my business/brand growing into more collaboration with business that like motivating their customers or employees
