Today we’d like to introduce you to David Alexander
Hi David , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from Boston, Massachusetts, where I started my entrepreneurial journey before I even knew what the word “entrepreneur” meant. My first business venture? Selling toy soldiers to my classmates in first grade. (They were really into them, I swear.) I shared this story in my Wealth Tales book series, because who doesn’t love a good tale of capitalist ambition at age 6?
Fast forward to my teen years when I moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I honed my skills buying and flipping used cars all over South Florida. Now, you’ve probably heard of “Boston George,” but let me tell you, I was the one getting called “BMW Dave” back in those days.
Fast forward another couple of decades (and nearly 20 years in higher education), and let’s just say I’m a bit smarter now. My family and I recently sold our pizzeria, Florida Pizza Stop, in Ocala – yes, we were that family, featured in Locala and on the reality show pilot, The real Florida Pizza Stop!
Outside of education, I’m also an avid real estate investor, previous logistics company owner, and more because why stop at one thing when you can do it all?
With all this knowledge and a burning passion to help others, teaching business fundamentals to kids just felt like the obvious next step. Wealth Tales! I mean, who else is going to teach them the fine art of flipping a toy soldier into an empire, but standing on the principles of faith and service?
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, I’ve had more struggles than I can count! From buying lemon cars as a teen, to trees deciding my rental property roofs were perfect landing pads, to COVID limiting my pizzeria business hours! If it could go wrong, it probably did. But hey, it’s built me a fine collection of perseverance and resilience—and a lifetime supply of funny stories!
My story is one of many trials, but consistent victories and teachings along the way. Les Brown once said, “Adversity introduces a man to himself,” and I wholeheartedly agree. I believe that while challenges are inevitable, they are also conquerable. Each encounter with adversity reveals hidden strengths and gifts within us.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have the privilege of working in higher education, serving our students. Every day, I have the opportunity to transform lives, helping students overcome financial obstacles to achieve their dreams. It’s a role where the impact is tangible, culminating in the joy and triumph of each graduation ceremony—a testament to the life-changing work we do.
What sets me apart is that same fiery drive to help students spills over into all aspects of my life—so naturally, I decided to start and manage my own businesses too! Most people can’t juggle both, but I got a double dose of motivation and drive! This brought me to create Wealth Tales!
Wealth Tales is designed to teach financial fundamentals through biblical teachings, stories, and more! We’ve covered topics like profits, return on investments, financial literacy, taxes, insurance, real estate, and more. Out of the five editions available, my favorite is the “Bible Business” Edition, which uses biblical references to teach children about finance!
I’m also working on the Wealth Tales TV show, book adaption! It should be fun and informative for viewers!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Faith and Family!
The most important aspect is my faith. Believing in Jesus Christ has been the anchor for my success and motivation!
Next, my wonderful family. My wife has been the best life and business partner that anyone could ask for! At times, entrepreneurial ventures can take a toll on the family, but I’m thankful that my wife, children, and I are aligned as we conquer new goals and contribute to the world together!
