Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Branch.
Hi Dawn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2014, choreographer, Dawn Branch was inspired to create a contemporary ballet to illustrate the unique differences between good and evil.
I looked around at dance performances as the nutcracker, and I thought it would be amazing to create a work where we recognize good versus evil. The ideals began to flow and then one night I created Eden, complete with the soundtrack. I will never forget that moment.
In this ballet, Eve is enticed by a Temptress and leaves the garden of Eden where she attempts to assimilate with the dangerous world outside. With the cast of performers aged six through adults eating features both professional and emerging artists.
The idea of creating work to illustrate good versus evil is exciting. If we can introduce these ideas to one viewer then I’m pleased.
Dawn Branch is a native New Yorker and a graduate of the world renowned Highschool Performing Arts. She has choreographed numerous platinum status awards and first place titles for both international and national Ballet competitions. She is currently a freelance Choreographer in Dancing Instructor in the Orlando Central Florida area.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been blessed with the support and embracement of the local Orlando community.
I’ve had the opportunity to partner with many dance schools and directors throughout Central Florida for “Eden” and other major projects.
As many others, the main struggle would’ve been COVID-19 where many Dance Studios were either forced to shut down or reduce their staffing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My biggest project and the longest project I would have to say would be “Eden”.
In terms of dance education, I specialize in modern dance Horton and Graham to be exact and unique choreography which has placed and many national and international ballet competitions.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk is huge. My biggest risk I would say was the production of Eden, I went out on faith I was blessed to have people who believed in me and the project and we went full steam ahead without a proper budget, and Major sponsors and stepped out on faith and today I stand proud to say Eden will be performed April 3, 2022 at the Dr. Phillips a Performing Arts Center in Orlando Florida.
