Check Out Delaney Genson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney Genson.

Hi Delaney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Delaney Genson, and I’m 23 years old. I moved to Orlando a year ago from my hometown in Toledo, Ohio. I am currently an independent hairstylist at the Red Scarlet Salon in Thornton Park, Orlando. I have been doing hair for about three years now. I went into hair school with the mindset of being able to set up my own schedule and change the look of my client’s hair, sounded simple enough. The more people I met in my chair the more I knew it wasn’t just about hair. Being a cosmetologist is about helping people feel more confident in their own skin. It is about helping people get through tough times in life. Cosmetologists tend to be a constant person in people’s lives; we hear and feel it all. I am in the salon to do hair, but I am mainly there to make clients feel like the beautiful about themselves and give a listening ear.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Moving from Ohio to Florida has been a little bit of a struggle. I only knew a few family members who lived in town when I moved. I had no clue what kind of salons were in Orlando and how they operated. I was looking for a salon that was oriented toward their client’s happiness instead of the money they brought in. It was extremely hard to find a salon that has the same morals and beliefs as I do. Thanks to Instagram, I can across the Red Scarlet Salon and absolute feel in love. Finding the salon was my first step back into the hair world, but finding a cliental in a state where I know few people is tough. Social Media has been a huge help, but finding people to help fill my schedule is currently still a struggle of mine.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an independent hairstylist. I specialize in color and love doing big drastic changes to clients’ hair. I love what I do and really work towards making clients feel good about themselves, even if it is just a simple shampoo and blowout. I am known for bringing a bubbly positive personality into the workplace. I enjoy being around other people and lifting the energy in the room. What sets me apart from others is that if you took money out of the equation, I would still do exactly what in doing today; nothing would change.

What’s next?
I do not have any big future plans regarding hair. I want to continue to build a cliental at my current salon and create relationships with the new clients I meet along the way.
