Check Out Destiny Perez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Perez.

Hi Destiny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story starts with my mom. She opened her own photography studio before I was born. She used photography as a creative outlet but she was a businesswoman at heart. She found her real passion in business and thrived in commercial real estate development. She bought me my first real camera for Christmas in 2008, seeing my interest in capturing anything I thought would make for a good photo. I immediately began freelancing and the rest is history. My mom sadly and suddenly passed away in 2016. After a long break from photography and having my own daughter in 2017, I decided to go back to my true passion in March of this year (2021). I hope I’m making my mom proud and get to tell her about it all one day. Destiny Perez Photography wouldn’t be possible without her inspiration and the support from my amazing husband and family.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having a small business is never easy. My biggest struggle has been growing clientele. I was raised in Jacksonville and only have lived in Lakeland for five years, most of which we’re living as a stay-at-home mom with my daughter and I in our “own little world.” So it can be hard to get your work and your name out there to build a reputation when you don’t have a strong family and friend base.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer specializing in natural light portraits, candid shots, and I’m probably known for my warm, earth tone-rich editing style and use of natural backgrounds. I am very proud of my portfolio thus far. I can look at each image and feel pleased with how they turned out.

Can you talk about how you think about risk?
I believe in God and have a personal relationship with Him. So for me, taking risks is directly connected to my faith. I can take a risk easily with His guidance and trust that I will never be alone, no matter how scary it might be. Starting my business was a major risk for our family. We have been a single-income family for almost four years. So we are very careful and calculated with our finances. But without some risk, there is no reward! Also, my husband is wonderful and I’m thankful that he believed in me!
