Check Out Dr. Gerald Horton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Gerald Horton.

Hi Dr. Gerald, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In my practice at MD Age Management, my journey shapes the way I care for my patients. I graduated from Florida State University and earned my medical degree from the University of Florida. I’m board-certified through the American Board of Family Medicine, and that foundation in family medicine taught me to treat the whole person—not just a symptom or a single concern.

Over my years in the medical field, I developed a passion for Aesthetic and Age Management Medicine because I’ve seen firsthand how closely confidence, vitality, and overall health are connected. My focus is on non-surgical rejuvenation of the face and body, while also addressing common hormonal and nutritional imbalances that can affect how people feel day to day.

I work with both men and women using bio-identical hormone therapy, peptides, and personalized weight management programs, all designed to increase health span—the years of life when you feel strong, energized, and well.

To me, aesthetic medicine is a balance of art and science. I use a range of tools—such as bio-stimulators, injectables like Bellafill, Versa, and Sculptra, as well as neuromodulators like Jeuveau—to help soften lines and restore volume in a way that looks natural and never overdone. I also incorporate advanced energy-based technologies, including the INMODE platforms like MorpheusBurst, Lumecca IPL, FaceTite, and others, to improve skin quality, texture, and firmness.

Every face and every body is different, so my goal is always thoughtful, customized treatment that enhances someone’s natural features rather than changing who they are.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the team I get to work with every day. I’m surrounded by incredibly talented medical professionals—skilled nurses and experienced medical aestheticians—and we work in perfect harmony. Every patient’s concern is something we discuss together. We collaborate, exchange ideas, and thoughtfully design treatment plans as a team.

What I value most is the balance we bring: a high level of medical expertise combined with a genuine feminine touch and exceptional attention to detail. We don’t just treat problems. We listen carefully, we strategize intentionally, and we create personalized plans that align with each patient’s goals and long-term vision for themselves.

Our office is a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or race. I firmly believe that feeling confident and healthy is universal, and every person who walks through our doors deserves respect, care, and individualized attention.

On a personal level, I’m a huge dog lover. My furry babies keep me active and remind me every day how important it is to move, play, and enjoy life. Staying active isn’t just something I recommend—it’s part of who I am. In fact, I’m currently training for the Gate River Run in Jacksonville on March 7, 2026. At 69 years old, I’m proud to say I practice what I preach. I believe that with the right care, the right habits, and a proactive approach to health, you can look and feel vibrant at any age.

That, more than anything, defines me: I am a living example that taking care of your body and investing in your health allows you to stay youthful, energetic, and confident for years to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Practice growth has been a struggle. Unlike plastic surgery and dermatology practices that have dozens of potential aesthetic and anti-aging clients pass through the doors daily, we have to earn every new client one by one based on service and results.
Marketing the practice is a constant challenge in the current social media environment where the consumers is bombarded daily with messaging. As well, there are online sources touting easy access to products and treatments with a short phone interview. We offer personalized care for our aesthetic and anti-aging clientel with a human touch that you can’t get throught the internet. We have leverage our own clients to viral market to other perspective clients through word of mouth and have found this very effective.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have had an interesting career path as a physician. I am a board certified family physician and practiced in a 3 man group in Jacksonville for many years. During the early years of the HIV epidemic, I developed expertise in treating HIV/AIDS and cared for clients in my private practice as well as through the University of Florida as clinical assistant professor. Later I joined a leading pharmaceutical company in a medical liaison role then transitioned back to HIV and primary care for several years. I chose aesthetics and anti-aging medicine as my encore career back in 2008 and have enjoyed applying my different practice experiences to my current focus on aesthetics and anti-aging medicine.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Make sure you truly enjoy your chosen career. I have been very lucky to have become a physician and had a wide variety of practice experiences.
