Today we’d like to introduce you to Electric Island.
Hi Electric Island, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sure, Stephanie the story of electric island really begins as a shared dream between my best friends and I. We all grew up sharing a mutual love of music. More specifically the local electronic music scene. Local events such as EDC and the many different nightclubs in downtown Orlando became a place for us to all meet with each other, unwind and let loose. After the pandemic happened and we realized we had an ample amount of free time.
We all began to pursue music within various mediums, everything from producing EDM to more alternative genres such as industrial and Post-punk. Shortly after we came to the realization that we wanted to create our own place for people to have the same positive experiences that we all shared. This little thought is what gave birth to electric island, a place where we could create our own community and give back to the scene and the culture that has given us so much throughout the years.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, this has not been an obstacle-free journey but then again nothing worth doing is. It’s inevitable in any venture like this that there will always be challenges along the way.
Trying to plan these events and actually getting the ball rolling is of course not as easy as just doing it, lots of thought and planning has to go into the logistics behind all of it. When we began this we really had no idea what we were doing. But as time wore on we slowly began to learn as we went. From figuring out things such as lighting and stage design to get the word out there it has been an interesting ride, to say the least. But with our diverse backgrounds and talents, we were all able to forge ahead and find the most viable way to get this operation off the ground and get the ball rolling. In doing all of this we have came away with a newfound appreciation of the efforts that go into setting up an event and truly creating an experience for our beloved community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our main focus in pursuing all of this has been to create and host unique events where people feel free to let loose and truly express themselves. One of the things we noticed a lot in our ventures throughout the local music scene has been a lot of drab similarities, where it seems like everything is focused on the top 40s or the same cookie cutter genres. We wanted to bring the underground back to the community and allow people to experience new things and express themselves in ways they never considered before. This underlying thought process has allowed us to branch out easier
We would like to get into generalized event hosting and art. As one of our founding members has a degree in cinematography we have used this as jumping off point to pursue other ventures such as visual art generalized event production for things like weddings and birthdays, with our line of thinking being why not enrich people’s lives through art in every medium possible. By doing this we feel we can truly reach a wider spectrum of people and enrich their lives.
Any big plans?
Our next upcoming plan is to host another event here on the 9th of April, For this, we are planning to do a more house and edm based event interspersed with some heavier tracks throughout. In general, we would like to start inviting more local artists and DJs to really spice up the community and throw a wrench into the normalcy that’s become Electronic Music
With this in mind, we would like to begin expanding into other areas and hopefully in the future start to rent out larger spaces such as dance halls and warehouses, we feel that by doing this we can more easily create a shared community space for people to engage with our art and to find new and unique ways to express themselves. I think in general our plan is to move forward with a growth-oriented mindset to become the communities premier event space.
