Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Melody.
Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After being in the nursing field as a Registered Nurse for over 18 years I knew I needed a change. I reached out to my friend Krista who had worked at the same hospital as I had for years. When she left she told me she was going to be buying a shop in downtown Mt. Dora and I told her one day I’m going to call you, meet for lunch, and I am going to pick your brain so I can do the same. I didn’t think that would ever happen actually. After working through Covid I knew the time was now. I still had a passion for nursing but it was waning. We get comfortable in what we know and what we are good at and that can inhibit growth. Well let me tell you that l DID have that lunch date with Krista and it was life changing. She told me I COULD own a shop and the only one stopping myself was me and my fears of the unknown, Within a week a shop that I loved for many years was being sold by the lovely Lynn. She was such an amazing woman that I was even inspired to do my first Google review of her shop after having such a wonderful experience there. We made it happen and with the amazing support of my husband and mom I am now doing something I would have only dreamed of in the past. We have 30 local artists in the shop who create amazing and unique pieces. Each one brings their own strengths and passions so I have them to thank for creating such a wonderful shop. We adore our customers and laugh and cry with them. I am now a firm believer in moving towards your dreams even if they seem daunting at first. We sell Pick Me Up Cards and my favorite one is “You can either step forward into growth or back into safety”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Learning retail was the first challenge. I had never worked retail a day in my life!
