Today we’d like to introduce you to Emely Williams.
Hi Emely, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, my dad took a lot of photos during the peak moments of our lives, the happy moments. As a teen, I realized I had suffered a lot of trauma throughout my childhood that caused me to bury a lot of the good moments with it. After finding a box of old photos, I unlocked a sense of nostalgia through the authenticity of the images that I knew I wanted to gift other people.
I picked up a camera at age 12 and got certified in Adobe Photoshop shortly after. Although I discovered my passion for the hobby on my own, my husband and God continue to be the source of my encouragement for getting as far as I have. It’s cliché to admit, but without my faith in God to come through every single time, in my creativity and life, I believe that my photos wouldn’t be as special as they are. My faith allows me to search beyond the exterior of my couples and be more mindful of their hearts so that I’m able to capture them more authentically.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. Learning that I am uniquely made helped me understand that comparison is all in my head. Working with my amateur gear due to my budget was also an obstacle, but it stretched me as an artist in the long run and prepared me for what I have now.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a full-time traveling photographer! I specialize in weddings/elopements and portraits/couples. I’m known for my warm tones and attention to detail. I’m most proud of the range of diverse clients that I have; from day one, I have just wanted everyone that inquired with me to feel overwhelmingly loved and accepted. My clients are special relationships that I invest in and cultivate, never just a number, and I would say that sets me apart from most.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’ve been a creative soul for as long as I can remember. Music, horror movies, and art were always the biggest and most fun parts of my life. I use to have SEVERE social anxiety and often felt very far from people until we connected through a creative outlet. Growing up, it brought me closer to people and broke down my walls.
