Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Delaney
Evan , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve began working in the restaurant business when I was 19 at a local pizza chain in Boston, MA. I worked various serving & bartending jobs through school and after finishing business school my wife & I moved to NYC. I was working as Assistant GM for a well known Michelin Starred chef and it was in this position where I learned the most about restaurant operations & hospitality. Getting to serve and make an impact at the highest level of the industry was very special and something I’m incredibly grateful I got the opportunity to to.
I knew I wanted to open my own place eventually, but Great Harvest was not the initial plan. I discovered a shuttered bakery in Downtown Orlando and after some research & investigating, I learned this used to be a Great Harvest Bakery for 1 year in 2020. After learning more about the company & getting the rights to re-open in 2022 we were off an running by Summer of that year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not! Nothing worth doing will ever be smooth 100% of the time and you have to expect hurdles, road blocks, and adversity at all levels, especially when starting a new venture. The previous establishment was only open for a year so it didn’t have any name recognition and we needed to basically start from scratch and build our following in the community.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We get to create fresh baked bread & goodies every single day. We are known for a few things, first & foremost is our bread. What makes our bread special is the fact that we mill our own flour in-house from whole grain wheat berries. This added step of producing the flour on-site and frequently is what gives our bread a much richer depth of flavor & nutrients.
On the sweet side, we pretty much make everything with gluten-free flour due to neighborhood request. All of our scones, muffins, biscuits, bars are all made daily and always using GF flour. They are absolutely delicious & flavor or texture is never lacking! People are shocked to learn they’re gluten-free and the fact they can’t tell just by eating them means we’re doing something right.
What makes you happy?
Seeing the same faces return day in, day out for their breakfast, lunch, coffee, or snack. This means we’re providing an on going service successfully and have earned the trust of our customers to be incorporated in their daily routines.
