Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabio Castillo.
Hi Fabio, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I got into photography the summer after I graduated high school. I bought my first DSLR camera at that time and began to learn everything about it. I started mostly just taking pictures of myself and posting them on social media. Over time people liked the style of my photos and asked me to do photoshoots, mainly my friends. At this point, photography was still a hobby, and I didn’t think about turning it into a business. Then an old friend, Prince D.A.T, reached out to me one day and asked me to come to one of his performances and record him. The funny thing is that I was super stressed out before going because I had never recorded video before on a camera, and I didn’t know how to change the settings to record. But after watching a few YouTube videos, I figured it out and the performance went well. From there Prince and I started to work a lot together and he eventually helped me make connections around the city to gain clients. To this day, I am his official cameraman and I freelance for other clients around the city. I shoot a lot of portrait photography as well as automotive photography. I consider myself very diverse with the different projects I work on, from shooting and directing music videos to different event recaps, etc. In the future, I look to keep growing as a photographer and videographer. I’m always looking for new and exciting projects to be a part of.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, with anything in life, there will be challenges. In the beginning, getting my name out there was quite difficult. I was a very introverted type of person and didn’t really feel comfortable talking to people. I overcame this by forcing myself to go to networking events and meet new people. On top of that, I used to have a full-time job, and this didn’t give me much time to get better at my craft. I have thankfully been able to quit that job and focus on my career and on school.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer and videographer based out of Orlando, FL. Photography wise I shoot a lot of portrait photography and automotive photography. When it comes to video production, I shoot and direct music videos and I shoot a lot of event recaps around the city. I believe my style of editing photos is quite unique. I tend to go for a more desaturated moody tone in the photos I produce. I also hold myself to a very high standard when it comes to the quality of the work I produce. I’ve scraped many projects do the fact that they didn’t come out to the standard of work I look for.
How do you define success?
For many people, success can be seen as making big figures or having material things, but for me, my work and what I transmit with it is what drives me to the point where I can say I made it. I believe getting to a point where I don’t look forward to anything bigger is where I draw the line. I’ll get to that point once I produce such inspiring and uplifting work for me and the target audience that I won’t have to make a point anymore.
