Hi Felicia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
The Veranda in Thornton Park is a community event space that I have been running. We host all sorts of events from local markets and drum circles – birthday parties- weddings – and much more. We operate local businesses in the houses (we have 5 total) and host-guest coming to events and locals in the area coming into town.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We struggle with being in the middle of a historic district and in a residential area- sometimes it is great and others not. We love our neighbors and the neighborhood so try and keep the community alive here.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The Veranda is a very unique establishment and I think the best part about the venue is helping small businesses grow. We host all sorts of events from local markets and drum circles – birthday parties- weddings – and much more. We also have watched businesses come here when no one would give them a chance and watched them grow from a tent vendor to having a place of their own and it’s so gratifying to know we are a part of that.
I live and work in Thornton Park and absolutely adore the place. It is my home
We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking?
We are RISK takers 100% we take a risk every day starting a new event or adding another event to the calendar. Will we make the community upset or will they like what we are doing. I think it’s a battle for sure.
