Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Vinson.
Hi Gabriel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
As early as the age of 11, I can remember loving to do hair! My mom used to do and I was always intrigued by the craft. I started doing my hair, my sisters’ hair, and any friend that would let me do theirs. By the time I was in college, hair has become a big part of my life.
Fast forward to my college graduation, I was excited to start a “real” career. Little did I know, God had other plans for me. I worked in law and criminology for a little while, when suddenly myself and several other people were laid off due to budget cuts and other bureaucratic agendas. Nonetheless, after that happened it propelled me to my other love, hair!
I was very new to the Orlando area. I didn’t know anyone. Sitting in my apartment searching for jobs online, an ad came up for Aveda Institute. I was immediately intrigued. I signed up for a tour of the institute, and here I am almost 10 years later. A highly skilled, professional, and celebrated cosmetologist. I’ve been with Haircuttery for almost 7 years now and I’ve grown as a person and a stylist. I love my guest. My “job” doesn’t seem like work at all. I love what I do and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I’m happy within, God has blessed me beyond measure in so many aspects of my life. Having a rewarding and satisfying career is the icing on the cake.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth having is ever easy. My journey wasn’t a very difficult one, but to use the word “smooth” doesn’t seem right.
Before landing at Haircuttery, I worked at a very small privately owned salon. I knew it wasn’t the place where I could make a big difference. Eventually, I left to spread my wings.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love what I do.
The thing that sets me apart from multiple people is my drive and the array of services I provide. I color hair, cut hair, do wedding hair, do facial waxing, braids, extensions, treatments, and locs. Almost anything pertaining to hair, I’m your girl! And I’m very proud of that.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Orlando because of the immensely diverse cultures I’ve experienced. I think I have met people from all around the world here.
