Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaby Gomez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, my name is Gaby and I’m certified crochet instructor by Craft Yarn Council (soon to get the Masters of Fundamentals of Crochet with Crochet Guild of America). I’m from Venezuela and I live in Florida since 2015.
My journey start in 2017 when I worked at the Public Library and they required to teach Knitting and Crochet to the public, I’m left-handed so was a little bit difficult to learn both but, since I learned it’s been a nonstop passion for me, I though hundreds of people during these years, and learned different stitches and techniques to teach my passion, that’s why I decided to get certified, to be a better instructor, and be a better crocheter, I also sell crochet pieces like amigurumis, my favorite pieces to make, I can crochet almost anything and I try to sell them with the best prices and the best quality in techniques and of course yarn.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At the beginning was a little bit rough, since I’m left-handed took me more time to learn, but after that everything was smooth, some of the struggles about teaching crochet classes and sell crochet pieces is the time management since I have a full-time job, but that never stop me to do what I love the most.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work at the Academics Library since I moved to United States I worked on the library field, which I equally love since working at the Public Library I discover my passion (crochet) I work for Libraries since 2016 and it’s a beautiful job, very rewarding and very fulfilling, I have also the opportunity to taught college students, crochet showing not only the techniques to do crochet but the different backgrounds, history and how crochet is so diverse and how help so many cultures.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
For crochet, I like to use Ravelry, some crochet books by Edie Eckman (who was also the crochet master who review my certification) The Crochet Answer Book, and Crochet Motif by Edie Eckman are my favorites if I have any question or need a refresh some techniques.
I love journaling and set goals in my passion planner, and I love reading self-discovery books, like intuitive empath by Renee Ramsey, books by Paulo Coelho who some of them talks about self-discovery.
My favorite thing to do when I have a hard day is Crochet and play Animal Crossing.
