Check Out Genesis Martinez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genesis Martinez.

Hi Genesis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Genesis Martinez, and my story began in Venezuela, where I was born, raised, and lived for 17 years. It was there that I discovered my passion for the arts—acting, dancing, singing, but especially my love for photography. In 2018, when I got my first camera, my interest in photography truly blossomed. I started teaching myself everything I could about photography until 2020, when I took my first artistic photography course. It was there that I learned about technique, the exposure triangle, lighting, and color.

From that moment on, I never stopped taking photos. I practiced with family and friends to improve my skills. At just 16 years old, I started reaching out to companies, asking for opportunities to photograph their products, not for money but for the pure love of photography.

In 2021, everything changed. At the age of 17, I had to leave my country, leaving behind everything I knew. I arrived in the United States without knowing the language or what to expect—just me, my family, a suitcase, and of course, my camera. Unfortunately, during the trip, my camera was badly damaged, and it broke. It crushed me to think I couldn’t continue pursuing my passion.

However, I didn’t let that stop me. While I didn’t have my camera, I enrolled in an English school to learn the language professionally. I continued researching photography techniques—perspective, lighting, and color—and practiced taking photos with my phone. At the same time, I worked hard and completed my senior year of high school in the U.S. Two years later, I was finally able to buy a new camera with my own money.

Determined to grow, I started practicing by photographing friends, family, and acquaintances. That’s when I created my photography page, @SaturnoPhotographer, named after Saturn because the name represents my essence. I began posting photos of my friends and actors I had worked with in previous projects. One day, my first big opportunity arrived: a museum called @EarthIlluminated contacted me after seeing my work. They invited me to an influencer event, and after that, they wanted to collaborate with me.

That experience helped me gain recognition. Shortly after, I was contacted to photograph my first wedding, then for a job with an insurance brand. Suddenly, what started as a passion turned into a career. By the age of 19, I was booking over three clients weekly and launched a mobile photography studio, where I would set up my equipment at clients’ homes for their photo sessions.

I began photographing events and always aimed for the next level. Eventually, I opened my own studio, which has become the hallmark of Saturno Photography—minimalist, tender, but specially elegant. In my studio, I’ve had the honor of photographing over 100 families, including maternity sessions, children, personal brands, couples, and now even holiday photos.

Today, at 20 years old, I continue to love what I do and work hard so that more people can experience the magic, passion, and dedication of Saturno Photography. Let’s create something beautiful together!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing that is really worth it is totally easy. In my case, my biggest obstacle was when I broke my camera and at the same time emigrated to the United States at such a young age, since from a very young age I had to balance work, studies, and my passion for photography, which made me feel that I should not continue to strive to take photos since no one knew me. But I waited and never stopped dreaming and working hard. Furthermore, I never thought of Saturn as a job, but as a part of my essence.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Saturno photograoher is identified by his minimalist and elegant, but creative style, it is a style of photos for people who like minimalist but at the same time give it a different touch, I specialize in all kinds of photos, family, couples, personal brands, products, events but especially babies, children and pregnant women, I love capturing the love and innocence of pregnant women or children, and I also love that mothers come with different ideas and always be working to create new and different themes for the photos.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Yes, it helps me a lot to read, watch videos, and talk to people with more experience than me, because there is always something new to know, to learn, and the world of dot-graphing is a world of trends and there are always new things. Going to church has also helped me since I am a Christian and learning from the word of God has shown me that more than doing things for money, you have to do them with love.
