Check Out Grisell Careaga’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grisell Careaga.

Hi Grisell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the wedding and event world has been a blend of hospitality, creativity, and a lifelong love for making experiences feel meaningful. I’ve always been drawn to beautiful details, storytelling, and the kind of moments that bring people together, so pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality with a concentration in Event Planning felt like a natural fit.

After graduating, I began my career with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, which was an incredible introduction to high-level guest experience, operations, and the fast-paced world of hospitality. From there, I moved into the nonprofit aviation sector working with IATA, where I gained a global perspective on logistics, organization, and the behind-the-scenes structures that make large-scale operations run smoothly. Both roles taught me invaluable lessons, how to anticipate needs, how to elevate service, and how to create seamless experiences even under pressure.

Despite loving the industry, I always felt this pull toward something more creative, something that allowed me to blend structure with artistry. I started helping friends and family with their weddings and events, and very quickly realized how naturally it came to me. I loved taking an idea and transforming it into an atmosphere, a mood, an immersive experience. What started as small projects evolved into a passion I could no longer ignore.

That passion became “Mad Oddities Weddings & Events”, my boutique brand built for couples who crave something unconventional, moody, whimsical, and deeply personal. Over time, my work expanded from planning and coordination into florals, décor, immersive installations, styled shoots, and other creative events. I’ve always believed that weddings should feel like stories brought to life, and I’ve shaped my business around that philosophy.

The journey hasn’t always been linear, but every chapter has played a part. Hospitality taught me service. Aviation taught me precision. Entrepreneurship taught me resilience. And creativity taught me that there’s no limit to how a love story can be expressed.

Today, I’m proud to create events that are not just beautiful, but meaningful, experiences where people feel seen, celebrated, and transported into a world crafted just for them. And truly, I feel like I’m only getting started!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most meaningful journeys, mine definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped who I am and how I show up for my clients today.

One of the biggest early hurdles was simply *starting*. I knew I had the passion and the education, but stepping out on my own after years in structured corporate environments was intimidating. Moving from the stability of global organizations like Royal Caribbean and IATA into entrepreneurship meant learning how to trust myself, take risks, and build a business from the ground up.

Another challenge was balancing creativity with real-world constraints. In the beginning, I didn’t have a large team or a warehouse full of inventory, I had vision, determination, and a willingness to learn as I went. There were times I had to stretch every resource, solve last-minute crises, or teach myself new skills overnight. Those moments built my adaptability and made me a much more thoughtful designer and planner.

There were also personal challenges along the way, moments of self-doubt, seasons where life felt heavier than business, and times when I questioned whether pursuing something so creative and personal was sustainable. But every obstacle pushed me to grow, refine my voice, and deepen my commitment to creating experiences that matter.

What has kept me going is passion, resilience, and an unwavering belief that there is beauty in the unconventional. My clients trust me with some of the most important moments of their lives, and that trust makes every struggle worthwhile.

Looking back, the road wasn’t smooth, but it was transformational. And I wouldn’t trade that growth for anything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the Creative Director and founder of “Mad Oddities Weddings & Events”, a boutique event design studio specializing in moody, whimsical, and deeply personalized celebrations. My work lives at the intersection of storytelling and artistry, I don’t just design weddings; I create immersive worlds that feel like extensions of my clients’ personalities and love stories.

I specialize in:

– Floral Design: From romantic, lush arrangements to dramatic statement installations
– Event Design & Décor: Crafting full visual experiences that transform a space
– Planning & Coordination: Guiding couples through a seamless, structured, stress-free day

My clients often come to me because they want something *different*. something that steps beyond the standard wedding formula and embraces creativity, mood, and meaning.

I’ve become known for:

– My signature moody, whimsical aesthetic
– Highly detailed, intentional designs that feel curated rather than cookie-cutter
– The ability to transform unconventional ideas into cohesive artistic concepts
– A warm, collaborative planning style that makes couples feel truly seen and supported
– Immersive themed events, including large-scale creative experiences and styled shoots

When people think of my work, they think of emotional storytelling through color, texture, florals, and atmosphere.

I’m incredibly proud of how far the brand has evolved, from simple planning services to a full-scale creative studio capable of producing thematic experiences, bespoke installations, elaborate florals, and high-end editorial content.

But I’m even more proud of the impact I have on my clients. Hearing a couple say, “This feels like *us* in a way we didn’t know how to put into words,” is the highest compliment I can receive.

I’m also proud that my business is inclusive and heartfelt at its core. I serve couples from all backgrounds, cultures, and orientations. Love is love, and I’m honored to create spaces where everyone feels welcomed and celebrated.

What truly sets me apart is the blend of:

– Hospitality expertise
– Artistic vision
– A deep understanding of emotional storytelling
– A willingness to embrace the unconventional

I don’t approach events as checklists, I approach them as narratives. Every floral choice, every texture, every layout, every detail, has meaning and intention.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating meaningful, authentic experiences that make people *feel* something. I believe events should tell a story, not just look beautiful, but reflect who people are at their core. Connection, intention, and emotional impact drive my work. When a couple says, “This feels like us,” that’s why I do what I do.
