Today we’d like to introduce you to Harold Arevalo.
Harold, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a physician specializing in sports medicine in my home country, Colombia. I have lived here in Orlando for four years, and I was selected to be here because I am an expert and have extraordinary skill in managing childhood obesity and healthy lifestyles. I have over 20 years of experience. Yi and my family are happy to be here and to be able to contribute to a very great need that exists, which is to improve our lifestyle habits, from nutrition, exercise, sleep, etc., to better program the variants that modify our genes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Over the years, many personal and professional situations have arisen that have changed our course. But thanks to persistence and discipline, we achieve our goals. For the past four years, I’ve lived in the United States. These have been years of great change. Leaving my comfort zone, my recognition zone, and my family’s zone has been one of my greatest challenges, all for the sake of achieving a better future for my children. Thank God, I’ve found great people who need help achieving their health and well-being, and they always appreciate it. This is a country of opportunities, great companies, excellent professionals, and scientific advances. It’s a dream to be here and contribute.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a physician by profession, specializing in sports medicine, health marketing, and health coaching. I have extensive experience managing people with obesity and chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, and more. These individuals require support alongside their basic treatment. As a health coach, I assist them in educating them on healthy lifestyle habits and helping them reestablish their normal development as individuals. In other words, I help them regain their independence and functionality, regardless of their illness.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Lansalud’s care is definitely shifting toward improving habits. We know that bad behaviors such as obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, excessive alcohol or other substance use, etc., can increase the development of chronic diseases. They also modify our genes (epigenetics). The global trend is to reduce medication use and be more aware of self-care. That’s why, as a health coach, and supported by my medical knowledge, the future will be successful.
