Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Hungerford.
Hi Holly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story began as a college grad with a passion for ministry and events. I’ve worked for nonprofits, large organizations, churches, and businesses. All while acquiring skills I had no idea would lead me into full-time wedding planning and owning a thriving business.
A few years ago, I found myself stepping out of a full-time ministry position, unsure of what was to come.
After 6 months without a job, I received a call from a wedding officiant asking if I’d be interested in helping to plan one of her couple’s weddings, which was taking place in 2 weeks! She knew I had helped most of my friends plan theirs and had experience in large event planning in the organizations I worked for. I eagerly accepted the challenge and dove head first into this wedding, giving it my full attention.
While serving the couple at the wedding and making sure the day went off without a hitch, the florist approached me to see if I was available for a wedding she had. I spoke with the couple and agreed to serve them on their day and at that wedding, I got another wedding booked.
I could not even imagine the journey ahead but a beautiful business was born. It’s taken immense grit, a willingness to make bold moves, and a wholeeeee lot of prayer!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a wonderful journey. From balancing spreadsheets (my arch-enemy), to building vendor relationships, to hiring and training staff. I’ve learned so much!
Some of the greatest challenges have been in identifying the right team. We serve and plan differently, and that requires a unique person and skillset. Identifying those and training them has been a large part of our growth as a company.
Finances. Everyone who runs a business knows there are busy seasons and then there are slower seasons. Learning this and preparing for these times, has been crucial to our growth as well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are most known for our service to couples. We are skilled event planners but our greatest skill is in how we serve our couples, their guests, and other vendors. We pride ourselves in an organized stress free day that includes moments of intentional service and care.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Wow! I can think of many sweet childhood memories but some come to mind that include special events. Like the first time I was a bridesmaid at my older cousin’s wedding. The day was full of joy, laughter, singing, getting our hair done and making sure they were having the time of their lives!
