Today we’d like to introduce you to Iris Estevez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For 15 years I worked at a dead-end job just going through the motions living check to check. I was only concerned with feeding my kids and paying the bills as long as I was able to do that, I was ok with staying at a job that offered no growth I did venture out while working and decided to get a 4-year degree in Criminal Justice which really got me nowhere because every place of employment wanted to experience my degree.
I struggled for many years trying to find my place when it came to a career, I didn’t want to take too much time away from my children but I also wanted to provide a good stable environment for them, I always went back & forth trying to decide if I should just use my Criminal Justice BA or find a new path. I’m very glad I decided to follow my heart and get into the insurance world.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When Covid started, I was let go from my 15-year position, I had hopes when things got back to “normal” they would call me back in but I was wrong, I believe they decided to call back as fewer workers as possible to keep their revenue up. I’m glad they made that decision. While I sat home for almost 2 years and homeschooled my kids a friend told me to get into the health insurance business and I did. I took the courses, passed my test, and there I was branching out into a new career. I then proceeded to get my P&C license which covers home, auto, and business insurance. A year later Here I am an independent Insurance agent growing my book of business, serving my clients with the best personal care and I’m enjoying every minute of it. I have the option to work from home if I choose and have a pretty flexible schedule, the freedom to have something you can be proud to do makes a huge of difference. I am proud of myself for reinventing myself during such a critical time in history. What I would say sets me apart from others is that I service my clients with top-notch customer service and by receiving referrals constantly I can tell they appreciate my work.
What does success mean to you?
Success can be anything you want it to be! If you wake up and don’t dread what you are doing in your professional life that is a success! When you are proud of yourself when you are able to set yourself apart by something that may seem little but it’s a huge factor in someone else’s eyes that’s a success! As long as you feel you are growing the definition of success is yours!
