Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Seibel
Hi Jamie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After adopting a dog who had serious behavior issues, I hired a trainer who used antiquated techniques and did irreparable damage to my dog. I decided to get educated and help other people learn how to work with their pups in a compassionate way. After running Pup Life for 4 years in New Jersey, I moved to Groveland last year with my husband and 5 dogs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Unfortunately, antiquated and unethical treatment of dogs is ingrained in society. The “alpha theory” of dogs was introduced in the 1930s and has been disproven since the 1950s, yet people still believe it. Showing people that you don’t need a prong, pinch, choker, electric or vibrating collar is exciting and challenging at the same time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work mostly with behavioral issues, like fear, anxiety, reactivity, leash pulling, etc. I evaluate and work with fixing the WHY, not just the action. Dogs don’t do things randomly, there is always a reason behind a behavior. Once you understand why, you can fix the underlying issue preventing the issue in the future. I think I am most proud of the relationships and trust I built with the veterinary community, consulting on dogs who were up for behaviors euthanasia and helping to save the dog and the family.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is that I can’t help everyone. Not every dog parent is open to learning, some want a quick fix, and many still have the antiquated mindset.
