Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnnie Rodriguez
Hi Johnnie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I can remember, I have been around music. Both my parents were involved in music growing up, so therefore, I was as well. I grew up in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and at an early age, I was a part of a national orchestra that really awakened a passion and desire in me to express my complex feelings and emotions through melodies and instruments. Due to political issues at the time, we were forced to leave everything we knew behind in hopes of finding a better future and an opportunity for growth. When we arrived at our new “home,” my dad gifted me a guitar and told me with a smile on his face, “learn.” After many ups and downs, learning a new language, and figuring out life, I returned to my passion for music. The biggest catalyst to the beginning of my journey as an artist and speaker was and is my faith in Jesus. Without that, there is no Johnnie Rod. After serving faithfully at a local church in Apopka, FL, for about 10 years, I felt I was given a calling to serve the local and international community. That is where my calling to reach people through music was born, as well as the Grace Sufficient Podcast.
Johnnie Rod is the artist name I go by since March of 2024, and my goal is to reach, encourage, and lift up as many people as possible. As a bilingual artist, I am committed to writing music that is relatable to both the English and Spanish-speaking communities. I believe that music is one of the most beautiful forms of expression, and it has gotten me through every season of my life, so I hope my music resonates with many and inspires others to follow their dreams too.
Furthermore, for those that enjoy a sit-down conversation, The Grace Sufficient Podcast is a place that welcomes all with the same purpose: to reach, encourage, and lift up. The Grace Sufficient Podcast has now reached 48 countries and over 260 cities with the intention to spread a message of love, faith, and hope in a world that is in deep anguish. That is why my wife, Priscilla, and I are committed to serving the local and international community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge I’ve encountered in this journey is holding the tension between the many hats I get to wear and dedicating the proper time to each. I am a husband, a dad of 3, with one of them being a newborn and two toddlers 3 and under. I am a full-time employee, a youth pastor, worship leader, artist, and podcaster. I am also a mentor and a friend. Learning to properly devote time to each of these roles has been difficult, but it has taught me to be productive instead of busy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an independent artist, and I make my music out of my home studio.
I am known for my diversity in many styles, genres, and languages. I specialize in heartfelt lyrics, vocals, and various styles ranging from rap, R&B, pop, Latin music, gospel, and classical music.
As a new artist, I am most proud of projects that are soon to be released.
What sets me apart from others is that I do not confine myself to a box. I write what I feel, and the vehicle in which it is delivered could be any of the genres above in either English or Spanish.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe that anything in life that is worth having does not happen through luck or chance. My faith in Jesus, arduous work and dedication is what has gotten me to where I am today.
