Today we’d like to introduce you to Jomo Cousins.
Hi Jomo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Jamaica and became the first in my family to attend college in the U.S. My grades weren’t enough to earn a scholarship, and my family wasn’t prepared to support me through college. But I took a bold step—I walked on to the football team at Florida A&M University, despite never having played before. Four years later, I was drafted to the NFL.
I didn’t last long in the league—not because I lacked effort, but because God had other plans. It wasn’t about football. It was about who I would meet.
One of those people was Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams. Through our connection, I found something far greater than a football career—I found Jesus. My whole life changed.
After football, I went through a season of wandering. I thought the NFL was my purpose, but that chapter closed. In my wilderness, I asked God why I was here. That’s when I heard the voice: “Your gift is to speak.” I began pursuing a career in public speaking. Doors opened. Progress came.
But then the voice came again: “You’re talking to the wrong people.” I didn’t like that. I wasn’t trying to talk to church folks. I’d seen too much judgment, too much hypocrisy. So I told God no.
And then I went through hell.
Eventually, I surrendered. I obeyed the voice, and from that obedience, Love First Christian Center was born. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. Because when you walk in your true purpose, no stage, no crowd, and no accolade can compare to the peace of walking in God’s will.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced death, sickness, disease, and some of the deepest heartache leadership can bring. The hardest part has been pouring into people who sometimes treat you like you have an unlimited jar—like you’re not human too. And anyone who leads knows this truth: betrayal is part of the journey.
But even with all that… God has been faithful. Through every valley and on every mountaintop, He’s been there. And I’ve learned that peace doesn’t come from applause or achievement. It comes from obedience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a full-time Pastor, motivational speaker, author, business coach, husband, and father — but at my core, I’m an encourager to all. I’m most known for my prayer life, which fuels everything I do. Whether I’m speaking life from a pulpit, mentoring leaders in business, or being present with my family, it’s prayer and discipline that keep me anchored.
What I’m most proud of? My beautiful family. They’re my daily reminder of God’s goodness and grace. And what sets me apart? Discipline — a regimen that keeps me focused, faithful, and fruitful. My mission is simple: to inspire, uplift, and guide others to live with purpose, passion, and power.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
