Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Bostwick.
Hi Joseph, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am an author and an artist, and I am 18. I am a Ucf student studying English and creative writing to work in academia. Art, music, and books from a young age have surrounded me. And I’ve always been into the arts. When I was reaching the end of high school, I decided that I wanted to be able to express myself, and I started messing around. Writing and drawing stuff and creating all that I could. This led to me achieving some success, publishing my first book, A Rotten Mind, and having art in the Orlando Museum of Art, and now getting my second book NUMB coming out in Christmas.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, I can’t lie. I thrive on criticism, and that’s how I build, so for me, it has been very smooth; even the people who have tried to make it negative have motivated me to change and improve.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, writer, and musician, but mainly I am a writer and a painter. I love writing about dark topics in poetry and fiction, and I would love to write about the dark parts of the human condition. My painting is mainly abstract, and I attempt to accompany my poetry to express more about the emotions and things I write about.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
If you can, talk to as many professionals and professors as you can in a university setting and widen your horizons.
