Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Volkman.
Hi Joshua, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Let’s Meet At The Table is an invitation.
The dinner table is where life is shared over a meal, conversations can go deep, and strangers can become family.
LifeSong Church wanted to create a concept that multiplied that idea. We renovated one of the large vacant spaces in our plaza, volunteers built the iconic long farm tables in a single day, and we partnered with DUO58 café to offer Orlando a craft coffee shop inside of a multipurpose community event space.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life is not a smooth road and The Table is no exception. Blood, sweat, tears, and a lot of prayers have gone into this space and continue to. It all started with a dream that our Pastor’s wife had in 2018 and with the community behind it, became a reality in 2019. It goes without saying life changed in many ways in 2020 and brought about many new challenges worldwide, but the Lord has continued to provide for what we believe is His vision for the space.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been the Table Event Manager since summer of 2022 and it is the largest, coolest office space I will probably ever have. I oversee the venue, handle our inquiries and bookings, lead a team of amazing hosts that oversee our events, stay connected with our partner café.
I am a processes and procedures guy who loves to streamline and organize but I love the relational dynamic more than anything else. There are always new and amazing people to meet.
What I believe sets us apart is that space was dedicated to be a beacon of hope to our community. Church can be a hard place for many to step foot into. The Table is a bridge that invites the community into a space where they can do life and they will likely gently bump into the love of Jesus while they do it. Our community event space and café help fund and achieve that vision of loving people locally and globally. 10% of all proceeds from our café go towards our mission fund.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In my personal life, I consider myself a calculated risk taker but my adventurous side often likes to push the limits.
As for our event venue, the leadership of our church took on a huge risk and could have rented the space but that’s not what God called them to do.
Success in the world is driven by outcome to determine if the risk was worth it. Success in God’s Kingdom is simply being obedient to the calling and requires faith. We have seen God’s faithfulness throughout by seeing people’s lives transformed.
