Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Rose.
Hi Julia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in 2015, I made a lifestyle change to focus on fueling my body with things to prevent disease versus waiting until something happens. I chose to really pay attention to the ingredients my body was being exposed to via food and products I was using. I am a lover of nature and its healing benefits so I started making my own body butter using organic ingredients, which was also the last time I would purchase a lotion off the shelf. I would frequently get questions about my skin and what I was using. People would always ask, “Do you sell that?” I would reply, “No but I don’t mind making you some.”
Three years after using my product with increased demand for it, I decided to birth JuJu Rose Naturals. My husband went and took $700 dollars out of his savings account and said, “here, get everything you need to start your business”. I was extremely grateful and started strategizing. We were consistent, determined, and humble throughout the process. This is how JuJu Rose Naturals came to fruition and has grown to be what it is today! Our products are handmade in small quantities and packaged in dark glass to ensure the best quality and freshness. Our specialty is creating body butters, serums and balms. All ingredients are responsibly sourced and we fragrance our product with pure essential oils. There are no preservatives, silicones, parabens, sulfates or artificial coloring in any of the products.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been challenges along the way. A struggle we faced was finding out how our product would do in the summer the hard way. I received many orders the first summer we were in business, packed the orders, sent them off, and all of them melted! That process taught me a lot about all-natural formulas that do not contain toxic ingredients to help them hold. I was not willing to compromise skin wellness by changing my formula so since we are in Florida, we decided to only ship the Body butter during certain months and have it available for pickup if you are local to Orlando. This was a significant loss but also a learning experience. Its always quality over quantity for us. We ended up refunding some of the customers and the customers that were close we drove and took them their body butter.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a registered nurse specializing in women’s health. That includes labor and delivery, post-partum, and lactation. A lot of individuals know me for my breastfeeding/postpartum advocacy and education. Working in the hospital I see firsthand how women of color do not have successful breastfeeding journeys. This is due to the lack of resources available as well as education on breastfeeding. I am extremely proud of being able to help so many women breastfeed successfully! Working in women’s health had a big impact on the latest product I released, which is a Boobie butter for breastfeeding and pumping mamas or birthing persons. I like to call myself a NURSEpreneur because my educational background and career mesh well with my brand, which is what sets us apart when it comes to obtaining skin wellness from handcrafted products.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that Orlando is continually growing and evolving. So many opportunities for everyone and such a diverse city. I like the food and all the varieties to choose from. I am big on family so I love that I can go have a good time doing adult things as well as have a good time doing kid-friendly activities. I dislike the I4 and the massive amounts of construction. I also wish there were more events and expos for up-and-coming businesses to connect and grow together and have pop-up shops in Orlando.
