Check Out Kayla Adamson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Adamson.

Kayla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Kayla Adamson and I am a Top Producing Real Estate Agent on the East Coast of Florida. I am blessed to be in the top 8% of agents in my area, and I hope that my story can help inspire others. I was born in Mississippi, but I spent nearly my entire childhood in Orange/Brevard County. My siblings and I grew up in and out of Foster Care. Our mother struggled deeply with drug addiction. The only thing we knew growing up was to live on government assistance. Even then, when our Mom was battling drug addiction too hard, she would sell the assistance. Leaving us with no food for days and weeks at a time. I remember stealing bread and other food items from the corner store for my sisters and I at age 11.

My mother never finished the 9th grade and my biological father, that I have never met, never finished middle school. I am the first person in my family to break the generational curse of drug addiction and poverty. I wish I could share some earth-shattering secret that helped me do that, but the truth is it was nothing but hard work. I dropped out of high school in the 10th grade and obtained my GED so that I would have more time to work. From there, I rarely slept! I worked long hours and completed college courses at night. Time seemed to inch by then, but now looking back, it all flew by. Because of my past experiences with my mom, I believed then I wanted to go into law enforcement to possibly help others in the areas I grew up in. I graduated from the Police Academy with honors in 2013. After spending two years as a Deputy Sheriff, I truly felt that it was not my passion. I wanted to share this brief little season just to note that it is okay to change your path and decide to do something new. Your life is never set in stone!

I left law enforcement and obtained my real estate license in 2015. I decided I wanted to go into real estate and help families find their first homes, rental properties, or their forever homes because my heart has a spot for “home.” For the longest time, I never had one! A house is so much more than brick, glass, wood and stone. Homes are where love grows and families multiply. I absolutely love what I do!! In March of this year, I decided to continue my education in real estate and obtained by Brokers License. My business continues to grow year after year.

During my childhood, my sister Kimberly and I leaned on each other until adulthood. Still to this day, her and I are best friends. I have two daughters, Piper 3 and my sweet Lucille, almost 1. I had my girls close in age; that way, they would always have someone to help them through hard times, be a cheerleader when needed, and a celebratory partner during the good. That is what Kimberly and I have. We find so much joy and gratitude in life. I have been hungry, really hungry. To the point where it hurts, and you want to eat anything. I have lived in extremely poor areas and even slept outside. But I wouldn’t change my past for anything. It shaped me into who I am today!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the biggest struggle along the way was getting past the look people would give. For example, when I finally became a Deputy Sheriff, so many people there knew of my parents. I was the woman who grew up with Meth addicted parents who still had warrants out for their arrest. People would have a blanket judgement for me just because of where I came from. It was hard to overcome that judgement. I am so glad I pushed through though because my law enforcement career is what propelled me forward to be able to reach even more goals.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Broker Associate for Denovo Realty in Melbourne, FL. I am very proud of how hard I work for all of my clients not just those with high budgets. I treat my clients with lower budgets just as valuable! I would say what sets me apart from others is my constant drive to further my education for my clients. I am constantly taking continuing education classes, obtaining certifications, and more. At only 5.5 years in, I already have my Brokers license. In the entire State of Florida, only 24% of real estate agents hold a Broker’s license; 13% of those are Broker Associates.
