Check Out Kira V’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira V.

Hi Kira, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I got started in performance in grade school theatre, singing, dancing, and acting. My love for the stage blossomed and continued into college. After a series of college and community theatre shows, I got my first professional acting job in 2016. As a member of a macabre story-telling troupe, my interest in the pyro-arts was sparked. While acting, I started learning how to dance with, and eat, fire. Yes, real fire! In 2018, I quite literally stumbled in Burlesque doing my first dinner show with a local entertainment company. That same year I auditioned for Les Vixens burlesque and here I am, four years later, still a member of Orlando’s Best Burlesque Troupe (4 years running)!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been an easy process. When I first started performing Burlesque, I was terrible; my costumes were store-bought, my movements were too fast, and awkward. I experienced an unusual amount of wardrobe malfunctions onstage. I dealt with criticisms from veteran performers, telling me I wasn’t a “real burlesque dancer”. I struggled with Imposter Syndrome for the first few years. My anxiety around the craft became so bad that I wanted to quit and almost did.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to think of myself as an Artist. My current focus is on Burlesque/Gogo Dancing; however, I have many passions. I specialize in acting/character development and creative direction. I’m most proud of my ability to adapt to any given situation. I think the most important skill in a performer’s pocket is to remain adaptable and ready for anything leading up to/during a performance.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I wasn’t sure how to find a mentor, to be honest. I think a big reason for my earlier struggles was a lack of mentorship. I didn’t have someone to guide me so I was forced to learn through trial and error. I also didn’t know whom I could ask for help.

Networking came easily for me once I realized it’s just talking. I pride myself on being able to hold a conversation so networking is like socializing for me!
