Check Out Kirsten Brookins’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Brookins

Hi Kirsten, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2017 I ordered custom cookies for a Baby Shower my mom and I were throwing. A hurricane unfortunately came through and the order was canceled. My mom was convinced we could make the cookies ourselves, so I watched a couple YouTube videos and got to work! Fast Forward to 2020 when Covid hit and we were all stuck in our homes and my brother (an amazing graphic designer) made a logo for me and encouraged me to make an instagram for my cookies. And here we are!! It’s been such a wild journey trying to navigate what being a small business owner means but I just do my best to keep going and making cookies because I truly love it more than anything!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely wouldn’t call it a smooth road. Maybe more of a wild ride! A fun ride though for sure!

The biggest struggle for me has been stamina. It’s difficult to not look at others on social media and not feel inadequate most days. I try to block out the noise that tells me I should give up or that I’m not good enough but sometimes it definitely weighs me down.

I do my best and try to remind myself I’m only one person and to give myself grace that I can’t be 12 people at once.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make Custom Decorated Butter Cookies for any type of events! I’m definitely most proud that I make cookies that taste as good as they look! There is nothing worse than biting into a beautiful cookie and realizing it doesn’t taste good….so I’ve made it my mission to bring delicious cookies that look amazing to your next event!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the sense of community here! Being surrounded by people who love small business and make an effort to always support those of us who have one is so sweet!

And like everyone I hate traffic but I think that’s everywhere these days!
