Hi LaTrell, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is LaTrell Scott, b.k.a. “OG Status.” I am a 38-year-old small black business owner. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. “Dade County,” to be exact. Before relocating to Savannah, Ga, I attended West Little River Elem, Carol City, and American High Schools. So let me take you back to where it all began for LaTrell. While growing up in Miami with my parents being connoisseurs of many genres of music, it is no wonder I grew up loving music. Music was always playing in our household growing up GOSPEL, R&B, LOVE, REGGAE, SOUL, ROCK, and 80’s dance. Whatever mood they were in was what music we heard. So music became my second language, and I speak it well. It was Around the age of 10 years old when I fell in love with hip-hop. I became mesmerized by artists Like “TWISTER” and his ability to rap fast while being able to understand his every word. Then there was “MYSTIKAL” and the energy he gave while spitting his bars. And, of course, “TIP HARRIS, a.k.a. TI,” and his amazing gift for being lyrically versatile. Because for me, it’s not just putting some words together that rhyme. It is listening closely to the story being told by the artist. Buuuuut, My biggest influence on Hip-Hop is Miami’s “TRICK DADDY DOLLARS.” As a 10-year-old child, I would go to work with my mother, who then worked as a Hairstylist in the U.S.A.
FLEA MARKET on 79th street in Miami, Fla., and Trick Daddy would set up his DJ equipment at the entrance right in front of the salon my mom worked in by the Merry-Go-Rounds. I would watch him spin records and listen to him DJ for hours. By the time I became a teenager, I had realized I had a gift. Not only could I Rap, mimicking my favorite influencers. I also performed rapping fast and clear, giving Big energy and lyrically spitting straight FIRE. Rapping and performing helped me learn a lot about myself. The Biggest development I learned about myself is that I have a gift for telling stories through lyrics and composing what I wrote into a rap song. So naturally, I wrote and rapped songs telling my real-life story. My gift and life experiences inspired my company’s “MONEYMAN EMPIRE LLC” record label.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is no secret that The music industry is saturated. Everyone samples others’ music and style in some form. Being original is also overrated. And making it as an Independent owner/artist is even harder. You do everything, from funding, producing, and managing everything yourself. One of the biggest challenges is Getting an up-and-coming artist to understand that they will be their first biggest investor, not the Label they are trying to sign with. Connecting with the right plugs is golden. Many will claim they can open doors you wouldn’t even have the opportunity to knock on. When they were only looking to scam you to profit for themselves, to avoid making this mistake, know that It is important to educate yourself in music and the fundamentals of how it works.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do? What do you do?
I am the CEO of my music company, “MoneyMan Empire.” I wear many hats under the “MME” umbrella. As a producer, I market, campaign, and promote “MME” artists and my performance and rapping career. As rap artist “OG Status,” I perform hits written by me. I write lyrics that tell the artist’s story. As an engineer, I compose beats. A song/ghostwriter.
What do you specialize in?
There is nothing I cannot do. For example, I am a fantastic Chef. I obtained a ServSafe certification, which certifies that I can Manage any restaurant according to State Wide Codes, Rules, and Regulations because My family loves my Spice Blend. I am always honored to prepare the meats for our family functions. And I am ok with that task. But, What I specialize in under the “MME” umbrella is writing/ghostwriting lyrics and engineering beats.
What are you known for?
I’m known as the rap artist “OG Status.” But there is so much more I’m known for. I love it when I ghostwrite for someone. Seeing an artist give life to the lyrics I created for them is everything. See, I can take someone’s life experiences and write lyrics just as I did for myself, which can be heard emerging from the hits on my album “TRAP,” available on most platforms. I am also known for engineering and composing Beats. For me, Composing Beats is very gratifying, challenging, and satisfying.
What are you most proud of?
I have many blessings I am proud of—my own company.
1. It has always been my dream to create a music company. It took some time to do then; BOOM “MONEYMAN EMPIRE LLC” was Established in 2018.

However, I am super proud of myself and the team that supports me. What I am most proud of is I overcame some obstacles that would have destroyed most. Instead of perishing and giving up, I graduated High School, then attended college and got an Associate’s Degree in “Audio Engineering.”
Now I am currently in the process of pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in “Computer Sciences.” I want to be equipped with all the tools to be hands-on in managing and preparing my companies to succeed. My family depends on it.
What sets you apart from others?
My Rap style is what sets me apart from others! I have a Unique flow that can be speeded up or slowed down. Rapping to great music and content most can relate to is my Zen place. Thank you for this opportunity. I hope my story has inspired others to remember, “Never Give Up.”

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love making music with the artist. The look and sound they make when they hear their song for the first time are priceless. But there is a downside to this as well. Sometimes they want only to accept when a song or part is best for them. I also love composing beats. But, You have got to have tough skin in this industry. Because everyone will not like what you create, and That’s fine. That’s why there are so many genres of music in the world today to choose from. One of the most rewarding feelings is Watching an artist perform. But, trying to keep an artist’s head in focus mode can be challenging at times. Social Media can be a good and bad influence on an artist. They want the success they see others have, and they want it overnight, Remember, You have to be willing to put in the work, and fame may happen one day.
