Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
2017, I graduated from the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality with my bachelor’s degree in event management. Shortly after, I started my professional journey with an event furniture rental company as an account manager, and I quickly moved up to account executive. Being relatively new to the industry, I recognized the pivotal role of networking in accelerating my growth. I proactively engaged in networking activities, serving on the International Live Events Association Board for three years. This deliberate effort facilitated numerous connections and provided me with invaluable insights and experience. I am an Account Executive for Wizard Connection, a premier full-service event design and production company. As a woman-owned enterprise, Wizard Connection has been an industry leader for close to 30 years. My role allows me to work with diverse clients, from planning smaller events to orchestrating large-scale productions featuring headlining performances. I love my job, and the experiences and relationships cultivated along the way have been instrumental in defining my present success and future aspirations.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Life presents unexpected challenges, with the COVID-19 pandemic standing out as a formidable obstacle. In 2020, the pandemic brought my industry to a standstill, resulting in the loss of my job. Having been consistently employed since the age of 15, navigating this period of unemployment was a significant and unfamiliar struggle. However, I look at the positives in any situation, and I was able to take a step back to re-evaluate where my life was and where it was going. It is time to pivot from the event industry and embark on a new chapter. I found a role as a Marketing Coordinator with a local non-profit dedicated to preventing and reducing homelessness in Central Florida. As an Orlando native, I loved that I could be part of something bigger and give back to those who needed it most. This experience not only allowed me to make a meaningful impact but also provided a chance to expand my skills in the marketing field. I already have some experience in this area. Over a year, I embraced self-directed learning and personal growth. While I valued our work, I missed events – it’s what I love to do! I saw the opportunity with Wizard Connection open, and I jumped at the chance. I’m so happy I did and was allowed to join this remarkable company. I found myself in a role that aligns with my passion and allows me to create enchanting experiences. Acknowledging that life is imperfect, each experience contributes to personal growth, whether a setback or triumph. My challenges have played a pivotal role in shaping the person I am today, reinforcing that every hurdle is a valuable learning opportunity.

I’m an Account Executive at Wizard Connection, a premier full-service event design and production company specializing in creative and fully customizable event experiences. At Wizard Connection, we go beyond conventional event planning, meticulously managing every aspect from inception to execution while infusing each event with distinctive design and production services. Our expansive 60,000-square-foot warehouse, complete with an array of decor, furniture, tables, props, and more, is a testament to our commitment to delivering unparalleled event experiences. Additionally, our expertise extends to custom fabrication, allowing us to tailor every detail to meet our clients’ unique needs and aspirations. As an integral part of the Wizard Connection team, my role as an Account Executive involves navigating our clients’ entire event design process. Whether they come to me with a clear vision or seek guidance in conceptualizing and planning their event, I am dedicated to providing comprehensive support from A to Z. This includes expertise in event design, graphic design, conducting site visits, and meticulous event management. Regardless of the scale of the event, I ensure a seamless and personalized experience for each client, crafting events that surpass expectations and leave lasting impressions. I reflect on many proud moments, making it challenging to narrow them into a singular highlight. My career journey has been a source of immense pride, marked by relentless dedication to personal growth and continual learning. Achievements such as securing top sales, cultivating high-profile client relationships, and orchestrating successful events that surpass expectations are just a few markers of this journey. Yet, my pride extends beyond professional triumphs. It encompasses the delicate balance I’ve achieved between my professional highlights and my authentic self. Balancing the demands of my career with a commitment to personal authenticity has been a fulfilling achievement. Every day, I strive to ensure that my personal life mirrors the success of my professional endeavors, creating a harmonious tapestry of accomplishments.

Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking is vital and opens doors to new opportunities and lays the foundation for building meaningful relationships within your industry. Many networking organizations offer student programs, providing a platform for early engagement. Looking back, I wish I had taken advantage of those opportunities to kickstart my career. Networking is a great way to meet industry professionals, which can also lead to internship opportunities. These opportunities provide practical experience and a chance to connect with professionals in a real-world setting. Being present, asking questions, and demonstrating a genuine willingness to learn are vital behaviors that can set individuals apart during internships, fostering a positive impression and potentially leading to future opportunities.
