Check Out Lindsay Haas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Haas.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve had a camera since I was a teen. My friends and I would get dressed up and find old barns, railroad tracks, you name it to take pictures. (I don’t recommend that now) My walls as a young girl were covered with pictures I’d taken with disposable cameras. My whole life, I’ve loved taking pictures. Time had passed then COVID. A time where I was forced to reflect what I was doing with my life, what I wanted to be doing with my life, and what made me happy. Shortly thereafter I picked up a camera again and started capturing life. With the help and support of family and friends I finally made the choice to make a business out of it in 2023.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Never, but that’s the best part. I think I most struggle with imposter syndrome as a creative. No matter how many times people say they love their photos, I wonder if I could have done more. What could I have done differently. I am my biggest critic. I’d say a close second would be learning all of the business maintenance, requirements, and marketing that comes with it. I enjoy taking photos and editing, everything else I could do without.

Work life balance can be challenging at times too. I’m a wife and mom to 3 boys. As a creative I do my best to ensure I’m in a good mental state walking into a session and ensuring the session is authentic to the client and not a list of pictures to capture.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer, but I like to think of it as more than that. The moment seeker, secret capturer, time stands still, see things differently, light chaser, family fun creator, fix your hair and dress on your wedding day photographer. I’m a big believer that there is the right client for everyone. For me, it’s the family or couple willing to play games and have fun. Have genuine conversations and get to know each other. Make your vision become a reality. While I can and do enjoy a good posed portrait, my favorites are when I ask if there’s a booger in his nose and everyone busts out laughing. Those, in my opinion, make the best photos.

I’m most proud of the families that keep having me back. When a family shows up for their second session and the kids are happy to see me because they know it’s going to be fun. My couples that welcome me back for babies. It’s the biggest compliment!

I set myself apart. My kindness, empathy, understanding and ability to make you feel comfortable. Whether your kiddo got sick and your session needs to be rescheduled or you show up and request a bruise be edited out. I will always work with you to the best of my ability.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Put yourself in a room full of people smarter than you. Whether that room is virtual, on social media, or in person. I’ve built connections by simply commenting your work is gorgeous to seeking additional mentorship information directly from fellow photographers. But I truly think you have to know what you’re trying to achieve before seeking a mentorship. In photography, it can be easy to get lost in editing styles, gear, and different types of photography.
