Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Harper.
Hi Logan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always drew as a kid; I enjoyed drawing realistic objects or portraits of animals and human faces and trying my hardest to make them look as realistic as possible. During high school, I began working for my grandfather as an automotive mechanic and dedicated much of my time to working on cars, so I wasn’t drawing at all toward the end of high school. Years passed, and I just turned 19 and excelled as a mechanic, so I moved down here to Orlando, Florida, from palm coast, Florida, to go to school to be a certified automotive mechanic. Coincidentally, my older sister and her friend Kris (the owner of evermore tattoo studio) moved to Orlando around the same time. While they were still getting the studio ready to open, they asked if I wanted to hang out with them. So I went over to hang out with them, and Kris told me that my sister had shown her this female portrait I drew and asked if I would be interested in becoming her apprentice. At first, I wasn’t sure it would be for me because I had school half the week, but I was still working back in Palm Coast, and since I was out on my own, I needed the money to pay my bills. I was so broke during this time it was a bit scary, and I wanted to put all my time into my apprenticeship, but I couldn’t. Unfortunately, I also started to have some autoimmune issues, so I was all over the place. I needed to make a decision, either stop the apprenticeship and stay working on cars or stop working on cars and work towards becoming a tattoo artist. I dropped out of school and was able to put more time into my apprenticeship, but I still had to work at the car shop to survive. I was finally at a point where I could quit working on cars and start tattooing full-time in September of 2022. Ever since I’ve been a full-time tattoo artist at Evermore Tattoo Studio, I am always putting as much time as possible into becoming a better artist. The odds were against me initially, but I fought and worked as hard as possible to get here today and will continue to do so!
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It could have been a smoother road. I was balancing my apprenticeship, my job back home in Palm Coast as a mechanic, and school simultaneously. I was so broke I often didn’t eat because I couldn’t afford food. Unfortunately, I became sick with an autoimmune illness, which took even more time away from my time as an apprentice.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a tattoo artist. I’m still very early in my career and still trying to focus on what to specialize in, which would be black and gray realism tattoos, which take time and hard work. I want to be known for working hard, doing good tattoos, and being unproblematic. I am most proud of not giving up and working hard. What sets me apart is me being me because everyone is different, has different stories, and has done things differently.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like that there’s more out here than palm coast, for instance, more people around my age, more things to do, restaurants, fun spots, and the city’s diversity. What I would like are the tolls and the traffic, it could be better than driving 5 miles takes 20 minutes.
