Luciano Rondon

Hi Luciano, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My photography journey started quite unexpectedly. Ever since I was young I was curious about cameras. Even had a few toy cameras of my own but didn’t took it seriously until I found myself with a semi professional camera in my hands and wondered how it worked. That’s when I started researching about photography. I learned about the exposure triangle and how these settings interact with one another to create a well-exposed photograph. Armed with this new knowledge, I set out to practice as much as I could. Over time I began to identify my preferences and develop a unique style. I found myself drawn to fashion photography. With all this knowledge I knew I needed what it took to succeed but I needed to put that knowledge to the test. I signed up for a fashion photography workshop and I was instantly enamored. Until this point I had never worked with professional models, lighting equipment, hair and makeup artists, but I was in my element. This is what I wanted to do and nothing was going to stop me.
Once I move to the US things became clearer. I started researching about local model agencies and worked with a few of them. The best tool on my belt was instagram, I was able to contact models and agencies directly. Networking became an integral part of my process, getting my foot on the door with agencies, models and brands.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have been very lucky. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with amazing agencies and amazing talent.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fashion photographer. What I’m most proud of and what sets me apart is that I do my best to represent the personality of the model in my work. I do my best to show the person behind the clothes.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis taught many individuals and industries to be more adaptable, to value human connection, and to appreciate the strength of community and creativity in the face of adversity.
