Check Out lundonnewyork’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to lundonnewyork.

Hi lundonnewyork, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I turned 11. My parents allowed me to go to the barbershop and choose my own haircut for the first time. I was allowed to go completely on my own so as to learn responsibility for myself. The haircut I received was not what I asked for. Therefore I was highly upset. After much ridicule by my peers. I started cutting my own hair. Over time I began to cut my friends and relatives. This grew into very much of a hobby. A friend from my college Years dropped out of school and became a barber. Later on he opened his own shop with a group of other service providers. He suggested that I take this seriously and try my hand at being a barber full time. Reluctantly I decided to try. Turned out to be the best decision of my life. I have done quite a bit in this industry this far. Along the line I acquired the name Lundon. For the most part the majority calls me due to my Instagram lundonnewyork. There’s lots more that I can say in depth however writing it down I feel would be a challenge.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any career move one can take advantage of. There is always a level of uncertainty and difficulty. I have had my challenges. Everything from initially building clientele to fully acquiring the skill to serve the General Public. Moving from one shop to another shop while trying to expand my reach on the community. This too proved to be an extensive challenge. However in 2006 I moved to Florida. After moving around to a few different shops, I finally settled down at members only Chop Shop. I have been there since the end of 2015. Quite a bit. The city of Orlando has been very good to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A lot of other professionals see barbering as simply a skill set. However I believe it to be an art form. It is a form of expression where the barber can extend the expression of the individual that he’s giving a haircut to. This allows a person the ability to face the world as his or her best self. I believe it requires some imagination. A level of skill. Some form of artistry. Without the vision of what a person could look like and an understanding of what they want. There is no destination. Therefore with one’s creative ability the haircut emerges from the ideologies of one to the talents of the other. I spend most of my time doing day today hairstyles. There are times when I’m afforded the ability to be more creative. I love it when clients are extremely daring and would take a leap of faith with me for amazing results. As a child I would love to draw from time to time. This can be found strongly represented in my work. What strongly represents me and sets me apart from others? I believe it’s in my designs. My vision is simply just my vision brought to life. Instead of drawing on paper. I’m drawing designs in someone’s hair. These are the moments that I feel absolutely free. I would say even excited. However what excites me the most is when I hand the mirror to a client and their faces light up with joy. It is at that time I feel the most accomplished.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Childhood memory, wow there are a lot of those. I wasn’t fortunate kid growing up. So I got into BMXing. I also played soccer I ran track not to mention a few other things. What sticks out the most? My time spent on the soccer field. There isn’t a specific memory. However I can say that I was always very happy on the soccer field.
