Check Out Marleah Krohne’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marleah Krohne.

Hi Marleah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started free-lance modeling in 1969 at the age of 19. My professional career began with a Winter Park modeling agency called The Christensen Group, doing print work, tea room, and runway for TV. One of these photos is from the 1981 Orlando Sentinel Style section. At age 44, I did work for a Cruise Line modeling typical styles for outfits to be worn on week-long cruises. After that, fashion modeling seemed to be only for the young. I never thought I’d reenter a modeling career, but at 69, I got an offer to do more print work. I started the Instagram page just for fun. I saw that older women were being very creative with the styles they posted. I started posting, too, and picked the name “StillStylin.” My first name is Marleah, but it’s sometimes hard for people to pronounce and spell. Because of that, I chose my “grandma” name, “Mimi.” So, I’m Mimi @stillstylin. I had no idea it would become such a broad connection to like-minded people. I retired at 70, after 38 years of working, which left lots of time to pursue many interests. It has opened doors to new opportunities, and I find my niche in having fun on Instagram. I share different styles of fashion, my love for Florida, and tips on aging well. I love representing brands and products. It’s a positive time when all ages can be included.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The long-time obstacles to the lifestyles of older people have been overcome in today’s Instagram world. For decades few women over 50 were given options to be creative. Now, women over 70 are having a significant impact on marketing. Many traditional rules have been replaced with freedom to express one’s style. I’ve developed some close relationships with many women from around the world. It’s been a very positive and rewarding experience coming together with women from midlife to seniors. Seeing the growing number of health, fashion, and beauty influencers online is exciting. Over the years, I’ve read a lot about aging over 60. My main focus has been to find ways to flourish instead of decline. After 2020, I had the opportunity to become a certified yoga instructor. It is well known that seniors who practice yoga decrease their risk of falling by 45%. Yoga also decreases cognitive decline. My joy is working one-on-one with my students. I’m happy to be 72 and leading such an exciting, creative, and wonderful life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
