Hi Mary, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My journey began humbly in 2018 with a small, non-speaking role in a dinner theater production. While stepping onto the stage sent shivers down my spine (literally cause it was always cold), I never dreamt this experience would spark a creative fire that continues to blaze brightly today. What truly ignited my passion was an unexpected invitation. An inclusive fashion show in Philadelphia handpicked me, a 44-year-old mother of four, to walk the runway at their DreamWalk Fashion Show, an empowering counterpoint to traditional fashion events. Standing tall with my daughters and niece watching me in the audience, with handmade wings adorning my back, I took a giant leap of faith, strutting my stuff in front of hundreds of spectators and reaching millions through online streams. That runway became my launching pad. I cried many tears on that day as I was also going through so many emotional and mental challenges in my life. Following that exhilarating experience, I unexpectedly landed my first featured extra role in a short film titled “Behind the Scenes,” I haven’t looked back since. From acting in over 20 films and theater productions to founding my own film production company, Fierce Orchid Productions, I embraced the creative freedom I had long dreamed about and desired. Fierce Orchid has produced nearly a dozen films showcasing diverse stories and voices. More recently, I expanded my entrepreneurial wingspan by recognizing small businesses’ challenges in crafting impactful digital content. Collab & Create Media, an umbrella company from Fierce Orchid, empowers clients to build authentic connections with their audiences and broaden their reach. The joy of guiding businesses to tell their stories fuels my creative spirit. But my journey continues! I’m involved in five film productions, with several more in development; looking back, it’s incredible to see how far I’ve come. Stepping into the unknown was daunting, but I shed layer after layer of self-doubt with each opportunity, revealing the fiercely creative force I always knew simmered within. This story is a testament to the power of embracing opportunities, challenging limitations, and nurturing our inner creativity. No matter your age or background, your unique voice and vision deserve to be heard. So, put on your metaphorical wings and take that first step – the stage awaits!
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My dream path was paved with something other than sunshine and lollipops. I never knew this path existed until life pushed me onto it with its messy hands. I wasn’t strolling through a field of daisies at the time. A separation had me reeling, searching for my true self amidst the rubble while digging up old traumas and trying to heal their raw edges. Yet, during this darkest hour, the flickering flame of creativity refused to be extinguished. It became my lifeline, the reason I didn’t simply shut the door and walk away from what truly makes me feel alive. So here I stand, a testament to the unexpected twists life throws and the unwavering power of creativity to illuminate even the stormiest of nights.

I love telling stories. I love helping others bring their stories to life, acting, or engaging with the community. I’ve been fortunate enough to carve out my niche in the film industry, wearing multiple hats as the founder and owner of Fierce Orchid Productions and Collab & Create Media.
My journey in the world of film has been nothing short of exhilarating. From stepping into the shoes of captivating characters to orchestrating the magic behind the scenes, I’ve had the privilege of immersing myself in every aspect of the creative process. You might recognize me from films like “Hi Sweetie,” “Melody,” and “Escape,” where I’ve poured my heart and soul into bringing characters to life.
But it’s not just about acting for me. I’ve discovered a deep-seated love for producing, too. Being able to nurture projects from conception to completion has been incredibly fulfilling. Some of my proudest moments include producing films like “The Piper,” “Bliss,” “UnPerfect,” “The Abduction of Courtney Garland,” and “The Queen of Christmas.” Fortunately, I have worked on multiple feature films with notable and name-dropping talents. Each project has been a labor of love, and seeing them come to fruition fills me with immense pride.
My journey hasn’t been without its challenges. I’ve faced setbacks and disappointments, including a falling out from previous business partnerships. But from those experiences, I’ve emerged more robust and more determined. That’s why I took the leap and founded Collab & Create Media, a business that allows me to channel my creativity and strategic vision into helping others bring their stories to life.
What sets me apart is my unwavering dedication and willingness to adapt. Whether in front of the camera or behind, I’m constantly pushing myself to evolve and grow as a filmmaker and content curator/creator. My journey is a testament to the power of resilience and determination, and I want to inspire others to chase their dreams fearlessly. Above all, I’m most proud of the journey I’ve embarked on and the obstacles I’ve overcome. Every setback has only fueled my determination to succeed, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next. With boundless creativity and a fierce passion for storytelling, I’m ready to continue making my mark on independent cinema and digital media.
I am also currently directing part of a documentary production called “Road to Halftime”, which is about 6 artists journey from audition to the their final performance during halftime at the Magic vs Clippers game. This has been a challenging production cause it’s so different from what I’m used to. I can’t wait to showcase this later on.
Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
As an actress, producer, and new business owner, I constantly seek self-improvement. Despite the distractions and uncertainties, my thirst for knowledge has led me to invaluable mentors and cheerleaders who guide and support me. In this unfamiliar territory, I’ve learned to absorb insights from every encounter, whether a casual chat or a formal meeting. Navigating this new world felt like charting unexplored waters without a compass. Yet, with each interaction, I’ve embraced the wisdom of others, using their advice to address my growth areas. While only some pieces of guidance yield immediate results, staying open-minded has enriched me with new knowledge and exciting opportunities. So, despite the challenges, I remain dedicated to my journey of growth and discovery. With each step forward, I’m honing my craft as an artist and entrepreneur and building a future brimming with endless potential.
