Check Out Mckenzie Noel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mckenzie Noel

Mckenzie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started 3 years ago when I would attend events but did not feel safe or comfortable. I was having a hard time finding a safe space for both black and queer people so I decided to throw a party that centers both. I had already been DJing for almost a year and felt as though I should just go for it. Everything was thought of, planned out, and marketed in a day out of a random burst of energy I had. Thankfully so many people were on board and I only had to pay $50 for the venue from door sales because the turnout was huge. I decided to make it a reoccurring event because I realized how many other people were looking for that kind of space. Thankfully, Nino from Transmasc Orlando DM’ed me and asked if he could take pictures of the whole thing. I was so grateful because I really wanted to document the night. Thanks to Downtown Credo, Minka Collective, DJ Say and other supporters we have been able to continue and be provided with venues and other resources necessary.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. The beginning was rough because I did not know too much about audio so the quality of sound was not too great. Overtime through experience each production has been more professional and high quality than the last. Additionally, I’ve been scammed trying to book venues and have gone through a lot in my personal life this past year which also made it difficult to consistently throw events.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
