Hi Melanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to introduce yourself.
The story about how I started in the beauty industry is one of my favorites. What I love most about talking about it is that it allows me to bring out the confidence in other women thinking about doing the same thing. Growing up, anything that had to do with makeup, hair, or nails always made me so happy, and it came to me naturally. Usually, anytime one of my family members or friends needed their hair braided, etc., I was always the go-to. After a while, my bestfriend was the person who initially put the idea in my head about charging people and using my talents. So why not start my own little business after going for my first certifications for braiding hair? I came up with my little business name, “Thebraidbabe,” and offered all braid services. I would go some days with no clients, but it’s normal as a beginner, so one day I was sitting at my workstation & I was thinking about what I could do to make more money. I didn’t want to go back to working for someone, so I started thinking of something I wanted to do & lashes were the first thing to come to my mind. I have never done lashes a day in my life! So I went to get certified in lashes, and I started doing so many lashes it took over my time for braiding.
At this point and time, I was getting more lash clients than braiding clients. Once I realized I was getting booked & busy for lashes, I went to further my education and went to school to become an Esthetician, & 4 months later, I was a Licensed Esthetician! Then one day, I realized I wanted to focus more on lashes and specialize in only lashes. That’s when “MEL G LASHES” grew up and is now the new name for my business. Looking back 2years ago, I didn’t even think of owning my own business. Now here I am, booking over 15 clients a week. I was working at Walmart and being a part-time server so I could make at least 40hrs a week. Now I can work whenever and make my schedule, & while knowing I will be making and receiving more of what I used to make. I love my passion. I love what I do, and my job is to bring out the confidence women believe they don’t have! We keep progressing and striving for more & giving more to our community.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Having my own business has taught me a lot of things. Starting my business, one of my biggest struggles was staying consistent. But I learned that staying consistent helped grow my business 5x more from where I started. I’ve also known only to let clients see the worth of my time. I’m a super kind-hearted person. I love providing for my community, giving exactly what people are looking for. I love building that bond with my clients. Without them, there wouldn’t be MEL G LASHES! You continue to grow from your mistakes! I know what I am capable of now and will take nothing else.

I’m Mel G, a Licensed Master Lash Artist who loves everything lashes! I specialize in all types of lashes, such as Classics, Hybrid, Volume, & Mega-Volume, as well as all kinds of color lashes, glitter spikes of any color you wish & decals of any type. I am also a Lash Trainer at Dejean Beauty for all Beginner & Advanced Master Lash Classes. I’m known for my lashes having great retention, glitter spikes & decals for the lashes. It gives you that pop your looking for! I love seeing new faces and meeting new people. We always have new things & new sales every month of the year! I’m super sweet & go above and beyond for my clients! I’m most proud of what my business is coming to and how much I’ve progressed in just 2 years.

What matters most is that my clients are always satisfied after getting service from me. My mission is to make people feel comfortable in their skin, & to give them the exact look they’re going for. If my clients are unhappy with the service I am providing or the area in which I am providing the service, they will not keep coming to me. If I have incoming clients, then my business will continue to grow. Then the goals I’m going for will never be reached.
