Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Hoffman
Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi I’m Morgan. I’m 31 years old and a wife and mom. My daughter Brooklyn is 2 years old and why I started sharing on social media. After I had her I went on maternity leave for 3 months. During that time I had postpartum depression. I think the depression was from being a first time mom, having a difficult labor that ended with a c-section and having fibroids that I ended up having to get surgically removed. After I went back to work I felt that I needed a creative outlet. I started posting reels on IG with my daughter just for fun. After 6 weeks I had my first viral reel (1 million views) and then 2 months after that I had another viral reel that hit almost 20 million views. The following month I did a YouTube interview for Truly. I now do social media part-time and still have my day job as a counselor. I’ve been able to pay off debt and bring in an extra income for my family with my social media which has been a huge blessing. I love sharing bits of my life and have an amazing community of 50k on IG.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Social media has its highs and lows. You have to develop a thick skin because people will say anything to you online. I’ve had people call me a terrible mother for posting my daughter online along with saying that I’m not my daughter’s biological mother because she doesn’t look like me. People have also told me that they don’t believe in interracial marriages (like mine) and that my daughter will have identity issues growing up because she’s mixed. These comments used to really bother me when I first started sharing two years ago. Now they don’t hurt as much and I’ve realized that there are more people online that love and support my family and I and that I don’t need to focus on the people that don’t.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a vocational rehabilitation (VR) counselor. I work with teens and young adults who have disabilities to help them get work experience, work skills and financial assistance with college. I’ve been a VR counselor for 6 years. The students I work with are very special to me. I have my master’s degree in mental health counseling and rehab counseling.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
You don’t have to be like everyone else to have a following on social media. I’m an introvert, enjoy being home and love spending time with my husband and daughter. Most people online think I’m extroverted and share everything about my life which isn’t the case. I’m actually a private person and don’t share a lot of things to protect my husband and daughter.
God has given me this platform for a reason. I want to continue using it to spread positivity and be a light.
We all have unique gifts and talents. Find your gifts and share them because the world needs what you have.
