Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Short.
Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Morgan Short, and I am a self-taught artist in Orlando, Florida. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for creating. Whether it was splattering markers and hand-sewing scrunchies with my grandmother as a kid or painting canvases and creating anything, I’ve ever dreamed of as an adult.
I founded CloudwalkerCreationz in September 2019 while watching the sunrise at the river. My inspiration came from the word ‘Nefelibata,’ who is an individual that lives in the clouds of their own imagination or dreams; a person who doesn’t abide by the rules of society, literature, or art. I realized I was exactly who was described, a cloud walker. And with the hope that I wasn’t the only one, I turned to Etsy to fulfill my dream of selling my creations to fellow cloud walkers.
I had many doubts and fears, being so vulnerable and releasing my art into the world, but I eventually gained the confidence to finally open shop.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I absolutely experienced some bumps in the road! It’s definitely tricky finding your place in the world of art and sometimes it felt discouraging because I felt that everybody’s art was much better than mine! But you just have to keep pushing, find your niche, and put yourself out there! Your art may not be for everyone, but you’ll find the people that your art IS meant for.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
On Etsy, I currently have some paintings, poetry, and sewing creations listed. However, I definitely need to make a shop update!!! It is on the way, sometime in 2023, where I hope to list some sewn pouches and different kinds of paintings. I’m most proud of the confidence it takes to put my art out there! I put a lot of love and effort into my art, and I hope that is communicated when somebody visits my page and purchases something. I would say my idea of a “cloud walker” is what sets me apart, and I feel as if many people can relate to and seek solace in my shop.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I wouldn’t necessarily say Covid-19 affected my shop, personally. It was a tough time for everyone! But we’re all hanging in there and getting through it- health, financial difficulties, and all.
