Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Amor- Sargeant
Hi Paulina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up in Asian family, expectations are really high of what your career will be when you grow up. Throughout the years, my ambition was constantly changing-from wanting to become a doctor, flight attendant, an aspiring lawyer, etc. I explored so many jobs on what I thought would be a good fit for my career but photography has always been a passion of mine. I first fell in love with it when i was in College in my photojournalism class. I always like to take good photos of family and friends, nature, etc. Then I moved to the US during covid, and I absolutely love the culture of how most families want precious moments photographed. That’s where I decided to pursue my passion as a business. I was able to do it full time in 2023 and my career has grown so much in a short period of time- I photograph families, maternity, and elopements. I am so grateful for this blessing to do what I love the most!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are a lot of times where I felt discouraged and not inspired at all, I used to compare myself to others and ask why I can’t do this or get enough bookings or get insecure of my work. But as the days go by, I realized that I need to focus more on what sets me different with other photographers- the experience and my work. My goal was to research on how I can improve my work in terms of my editing style preferences as well as making sure each session is always relaxed, and I try my best to make the experience pleasant and fun for my clients to deliver frame worthy images.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I photograph families, maternity and elopements. My style is true to color with warm tones, focusing and highlighting raw and genuine emotions. Maternity has been my favorite- as an aspiring mama, I currently live vicariously through my clients! Ha. The experience is always different- my goal is to provide a pleasant, relaxed yet fun session and deliver timeless and frame worthy images!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I can still see myself working as a family and maternity photographer in the future- the good thing about photography is its always changing. There is always room for growth constantly which I love- you are not limited to what you can do and create as an artist. It gives me the creative freedom to capture images that my clients will be able to enjoy forever.
