Check Out Princess Malcolm’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princess Malcolm.

Hi Princess, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have always thought about modeling but was very intimidated by the industry and felt that plus-size women were not showcased as much as straight-size models. For years, I have seen how the industry has become more diverse and more accepting of different shapes but still never took a chance.

Well back in 2020, I lost my job due to Covid and with so much free time, I decided to venture into modeling. I met model/self-love activist, KhrystyAna via one of her model workshops. I follow her on Instagram and have been since her America Next Top Model days.

From there, she became one of my mentors and really provided me with a lot of guidance on how to get things started. I really turned something negative as losing my job into something positive. I connected with a few photographers for collaborations in the Tampa and the Orlando area allowing me to work on building my book. As a new model, this is a great way to network and get comfortable in front of the camera.

From all the networking I did, I met Max Austin from @Posebypxphotography who soon became my regular photographer. Working closely with him really allowed me to grow as a model. Last year around June, I connected with Mariam Gomez via her consultancy services, and let me tell you it was the best investment I could have ever made. She really guided me into elevating myself ensuring I was ready for everything modeling-wise. I can say a lot of my recent success is thanks to her.

From collaborating with brands, walking in New York Fashion Week, to working in my first campaign closing out 2021, I can say I am ready for what 2022 has in store for me. Never forget hard work and believing that you can is the secret sauce to anything in life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road but at the same time, those little bumps have allowed me to learn a lot from the industry and myself. I think the biggest struggle has been Covid to be honest because Covid really slowed things down a lot.

It has been challenging with bookings due to being out of state and clients wanting to hire more locals to avoid risk. Even though FL has some opportunities the bigger cities like New York and LA are where you see more opportunities. I can tell you this… Being in FL has not stopped me and I will continue to show up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work as an HRIS Analyst (Workday Specialized). My area is HR and Benefits with a focus on the tech side of things. I am well known for always helping others, my positive attitude, and my attention to detail which also sets me apart from others.

My proudest moment mmm definitely have to say was finishing my Bachelors in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida last Summer 2021. It took me a while with so much happening in the world but I got it done.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see the industry being wide open and accepting of everyone. I feel like in the past 10 years it has changed a lot but there is so much more work to be done. I see it becoming fully diverse and inclusive of all. Everyone should feel represented.
