Check Out Priscilla Mitchell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Mitchell

Hi Priscilla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
🖐🏾 Hey there, my name is Priscilla, the owner and henna artist of Prisca Art Henna ♥

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to be an artist. God was leading me to use the hands he gave me to add more beauty to the world. Sometimes I glance and turn through my old sketchbooks from when I was a toddler, until now, and I look at how far I have come, through skill and practice, and a lot of patience.

Back then, I thought that I had to be a brilliant painter or pencil drawer to be a great artist, but as I got older I discovered so many different forms of art, and I wanted to learn every single one of them. I drew, sketched, shaded, and colored my way through life, until I stumbled upon a Jagua art job at John’s Pass(thanks to my friend who I still thank to this day). I loved the idea of a staining medium that resembled a tattoo, or basically anything you wanted it to be. Jagua brought me into the world of henna, and that led me to opening my own Henna and Jagua Business in Florida.

Drawing henna designs is one of my meditations and therapies. It starts up a happiness and joy inside me, and brings peace and focus to my sometimes upside down life. I love using this art form to connect with others from all walks of life, backgrounds, faiths, cultures, and occupations.

Henna + Jagua started off as a normal job for me to make ends meet, I never expected for it to integrate into my life in such an amazing way. I’ve been able to travel so many events all over Florida, and celebrate marriages, birthdays, pregnancies, and many other life events with so many lovely people.

I thank God for this blessing and talent he gave me to share with others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. As a small business owner, I had to learn so much very quickly. Like boundaries, being okay with saying no, and accepting that I was going to make mistakes a long the way. Henna also comes with a lot of experimenting with different mixes to make the best paste as well. That was a big learning curve as well. Overall, providing an amazing experience for my clients is something I am always tweaking and making better. I want them to be comfortable and trust me with drawing on them. I focus on my work a lot to “prove” myself, so when they see my portfolio they know I am the artist for them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in henna and jagua art. Recently I have been drawn to realistic florals, so I include that in a lot of my work. I love doing half and full sleeves, which is what I mostly do for my appointments. But, a lot of my clients love coming to see me at events and festivals as well. I am super proud of my freehand ability, I can make up a unique design on the spot, or combine different designs that my clients want. What sets me apart from other artists is me. I bring a light hearted, fun, laid back vibe wherever I go, and my clients love that, couple with my years of artistic skill and speed as well. It’s he best of both worlds.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how artsy Melbourne is. There are so many amazing creatives and events. There’s always something new to learn, a class to go to, a fun art fair, or people who want to connect over shared interests. Not to mention the many coffee shops, I’m a but of an addict, haha! I’m not sure what I like least, other than some traffic, and maybe that fact that EVERYONE is trying to throw an event and not put a lot of effort into it.

Pricing:

  • My private appointments for Henna + Jagua start at $35 and up.
  • At my events, designs start at $10.
  • My Henna Party Experience Package is $125/hr.
