Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafael Perez.
Hi Rafael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started growing an interest in makeup artistry when I was 14 years old. I grew up having an affinity and appreciation for different types of art forms and the way they were presented as well. Special FX makeup, prosthetics, and the use digital animation always inspired me as a young Latin LGBTQ+ individual. I felt connected to these forms of visual artistry that I simply could not explain at a young age. Fast forward to 2016, when I was already playing with makeup and got my first job as a Color Consultant at Sephora in my hometown. That year I was able to gain so much experience as well as it was the first year I started posting makeup looks online. It first started as a Hobbie with no serious intention whatsoever, and then little by little it developed into something that I knew could grow bigger and better.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being a makeup and theme park content creator has had its fair share of ups and downs. As a somebody who identifies as a Latin genderfluid individual, it can be quite difficult to navigate through my social media platforms without encountering a certain amount of homophobia and racism on a daily basis sometimes. Thankfully, I’ve been blessed to have many amazing friendships as well as a trustworthy support group of people that constantly show love and appreciation of the work I do. I desire to hopefully showcase that POC individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ can be able to showcase the talent, work, and passion that they have for their craft and present it at a bigger platform for a more exposed audience.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a PRO makeup artist/ theme park enthusiast and content creator. I showcase a lot of my visual arts as well as provide a guide for people who are into theme parks like myself through my page. I’m quite versatile when it comes to my makeup style; I can do high glam, avant-garde, creative, eccentric, cosplay and etc. I personally have years of experience from being a freelancing makeup artist as well as being a former cast member at an Orlando theme park. Both of these subjects are topics that correlate a lot to the lifestyle of this city, and I can totally relate to that feeling. I feel that I stand out cause I showcase my creativity well through both of these hobbies that I have turned into something bigger for myself, expanding my knowledge as well in order to provide more information about these topics to my audience.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m hoping to possibly work on bigger productions in the future as well as be able to try different opportunities that can help my platforms grow as well. As long as I’m able to develop myself into the content creator that I aspire to be, I will feel complete as a creator and as an artist.
