Check Out Funky Punky’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Funky Punky.

Hi Funky Punky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I believe my passion for DJing found me and not the other way around. In somewhat of a serendipitous ‘scrolling’ moment, I started djing because of a video I saw on Twitter. I came across a video of a female DJ, OGKKAI, that made a few mash-ups, one including The Jonas Brothers (huge fan) and there it was. In that moment, I felt something in my soul and I immediately knew. I can’t really explain it, but I knew in that moment I was meant to be someone that spreads their good vibes through the power of music and help others dance their way through life like I do. I trusted the calling and began my journey…..

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can’t say it’s been the smoothest of roads, but I never wavered in my decision and as long as I trusted, the universe would guide me, and it has. Not only have I been extremely blessed in finding my passion, it was in a time and moment in my life where I can follow it with full commitment. I can say the hardest part for me has been more mental in that it’s a slow process. I dove in, not really knowing anything and learning from scratch (no pun intended, haha). I walked away from my psychology degrees and path that provided more ‘security’ to trust a passion that I really couldn’t guarantee would work. As with most people, I wanted more instant gratification and that just doesn’t happen in this industry. Fortunately, I have cultivated an amazing network of friends and my family has been my rock, whose support is immeasurable during my time of need. Still, I have those days when I need to hone in, ground myself and give that reminder that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be and be patient. I am moving at the sound of light and I am closer than I know, so I trust the journey. I patiently wait for the day when I look back, with all my friends and family, and say ‘we did it’…..because WE did. It’s not me, it’s WE.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am still evolving and adding onto my resume. Currently, I’m a producer & dj who specializes in EDM, with focus on all things bass — dubstep, trap, riddim, etc. What makes me most proud is the crowd’s excitement. I get to travel the world while making and playing music for everyone to vibe out to and I feel it. I feel their love for what I do. If I have anything to do with one of the best times of their life, well that’s my proud moment. I believe what sets me apart of others is my infectious passion for the music. It’s a vibe, either you catch it, or you don’t. If you don’t catch it the first time, I’ll try again and, I’m pretty sure I’ll get you. I am always looking to ensure everyone is having a good time. If everyone is having a good time, what is there to complain about?

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned through the everlasting Covid-19 crisis is to never give up. This too shall pass. While any crisis is not ideal, it was actually a blessing for me, in the sense I was forced to stop everything else and was able to immerse myself into the world of DJing and really focus. All of that aside, safety first and I think everyone can have a good time and still be safe.
