Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodcliffe Hume.
Hi Rodcliffe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s been a long road, but here’s the short version. Back in 2005, fresh out of high school, I knew I didn’t want a typical 9-to-5. With that in mind, I started selling beaded bracelets and necklaces to tourists on the Chukka Blue ATV tours in Cascade, Hanover. My dream at the time? Becoming a video editor. I used the money from those sales to go towards a short video editing course, but along the way, something else caught my eye—cameras.
Watching tourists with their cameras sparked a new interest. When I decided to go back to school, I started with a graphic design course in 2007, thinking it would complement my future in video. Around that time, I reached out to family members in the U.S. to help me get my first camera. My cousin Kenroy Ellis came through with a used 2MP point-and-shoot camera, and that’s where it all began.
By 2014, I saved enough to buy my first DSLR—a Nikon D3100. With no real knowledge of photography, I dived in, with YouTube and experimenting. I remember being in the backyard taking macro shots of ants with a reverse macro ring, and my brother calling me crazy in true Jamaican style: “But this boy nuh mad man!”
At first, it was all flowers, insects, and family members. But over time, I fell in love with capturing people. My big turning point? In 2017, my 3-years-old son Giovanni told me, “Go and take people’s pictures, they will give you money.” That little push gave me the courage to take photography seriously.
By 2019, I became a full-time travel and lifestyle photographer. Then came the pandemic, which gave me time to refine my craft and plan for the future. Fast forward to 2023, I shifted focus to wedding photography with the goal of shooting 25 weddings in 2024—a goal I achieved! Now, with bookings secured into 2025, my next milestone is shooting 52 weddings in a single year.
From beaded bracelets to capturing love stories, my journey has been one of resilience, passion, and constant growth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always smooth. There were times when I wanted to learn more through mentorship, but gatekeeping in the industry made it difficult. Work would also slow down at times, leaving me uncertain. During those moments, my spouse, Taniesha Anglin, would always reassure me that everything would work out—and she was right.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a passionate wedding and lifestyle photographer specializing in capturing authentic moments and telling unique love stories through my lens. I’m known for creating timeless, vibrant, and emotive images that reflect the individuality of my clients. My goal is to document the beauty of each couple’s journey, making every shot feel natural and heartfelt.
What I’m most proud of is the trust and joy my work brings to my clients. The smiles, the tears, and the memories I help preserve are what fuel my passion. Achieving my goal of shooting 25 weddings in 2024 and having bookings confirmed well into 2025 has been a significant milestone not just for me but also my team member Akeem Kerr.
What sets me apart is my ability to make people feel at ease in front of the camera, turning even the most camera-shy individuals into stars of their story. My journey—starting with selling beaded jewelry to fund my passion—has shaped my creative approach and resilience. I see photography as more than just capturing images; it’s about building connections, preserving legacies, and celebrating life’s most precious moments.
I’m always evolving, learning, and pushing myself creatively to ensure every client feels their story is unique and unforgettable.
