Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosiry Mercedes.
Hi Rosiry, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I became a licensed stylist 4yrs ago. Straight out of beauty school I knew I wanted to focus my career on curly hair because I myself struggled with my natural hair after moving to Florida from New York. . I trained with Devacurl as soon as I passed my state board. Traveled to Nyc and invested in my education since day one. I’m a true believer that once you stop learning you stop growing. I will say that my willingness to work hard and wants to succeed it’s what has gotten me where I am today. And every day I push myself a bit harder. Learning new techniques and staying up to date on the newest hair trends. Being a wife and mother to 2 boys can make it difficult at times to have a work-life balance thank god I have a supportive husband that teams up with me to make this all happen.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but yes fun! After working in a salon that I thought will be my forever home I was unexpectedly fired that forced me to go on my own. I will say that I was scared and afraid but now looking back I’m happy it happened. This pushed me to step up to the plate and work harder. To start from practically zero and build my brand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a licensed hairstylist. I specialize in naturally curly hair and color on curly hair. I work with women and children teaching them how to love and care for their tru texture. I’m very proud of the mothers I’ve helped to better understand their daughter’s hair. Especially parents with mixed kids.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
What has worked for me is I meet people in the classes that I attend. Yes, they are expensive but not only do I learn I also get to meet and network with other artists that are doing the same as me.
